Description

Highly responsible technical work in the creative design, production, and preparation of materials using audio and video equipment to produce video, internet material, and print quality images and graphics for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO). Specifically charged with the production of all internal and external media formats which fall within the varied responsibilities of Community Engagement Division (CED).

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Captain of CED. Performance is evaluated through observation, oral/written reports, results obtained, and appropriate employee performance appraisals. 
  • Work in collaboration with other staff and employees throughout the agency to produce a variety of video and photography products for broadcasting, webcasting, video streaming, and digital distribution
  • In cooperation with other staff, coordinate pre/post production and planning activities
  • Communicate technical information in non-technical terms
  • Conduct field-based photography and video production which involves interaction with sworn and civilian employees as well as members of the general public
  • Transport and set up any required lighting and audio equipment
  • Operate all photography, portable video, and audio equipment
  • Provide limited troubleshooting and maintenance of field production equipment
  • Plan and perform photographic and video post-production tasks to include reviewing footage, making editorial recommendations, video transcoding, rough cuts, audio adjustment, color correction, and final editing using various photo and video editing software
  • Utilize computer graphics and special effects for photographic and video post-production in accordance with the overall production concepts
  • Compress photographic and video projects for output
  • Capture recorded video using software and encode media as appropriate
  • Make photographic and video products available in a variety of formats including DVDs and streaming media files
  • Coordinates internal and external duplication services as required
  • Optimize, organize, and publish approved media on third party websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other platforms
  • Conduct social media monitoring/listening on behalf of the Public Information Officer to support trend awareness, perception risk or potential, and content that impacts ongoing or planned community engagement
  • Maintain and update the agency external website with directed or requested content
  • Support production of agency reports and briefings through technical design and content layout

High School Diploma / GEDRequired
Associate's Degree or betterPreferred
Preferred Major(s): Telecommunications, Journalism, Video Production or other related field.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
  • Advanced computer skills required
  • Advanced skills with digital photography, digital videography, and associated software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier is preferred
  • Progressively responsible experience in a professional photography and video editing/producing environment demonstrating competence in all areas of photography and video production
  • Creative and/or web design experience/portfolio is preferred
  • Working familiarity with presentation and content layout software is required
  • Any combination of education and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:
  • Current, valid Florida driver license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sit/stand for extended periods of time

  • Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently

  • Drive a vehicle (ACSO Civilian Driving Course may be required)

  • Knowledge of professional photographic and video production procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology
  • Knowledge of professional photographic and video production equipment operation including digital/video cameras and recorders, audio recording equipment, file compression, video switching, character generation, graphics manipulation, lighting, and post-production equipment
  • Working knowledge of the geography of Alachua County
  • Above average communications skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent judgment in decision making under stressful circumstances
  • Above average planning skills
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
  • Ability to work as part of a team on projects of mutual interest to other agency personnel
  • Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, impartially, and with respect to the rights of others
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of digital video cameras and video editing equipment
  • Ability to operate computers and relevant systems and software
  • Ability to creatively plan and translate abstract concepts into effective visual form

  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the ACSO administration, coworkers, other agencies, and the general public
