Description

Join JB&B and shape the future of the built environment!

Founded in 1915, Jaros, Baum, & Bolles has been a pillar of engineering innovation in New York City for over a century.  Specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), JB&B has contributed to some of the most iconic buildings.

In October 2025, JB&B joined forces with Trinity Consultants, a global consulting firm focused on the natural and built environments.  JB&B now operates within Trinity's Built Environment division, combining its deep expertise in high-performance building systems with Trinity's strengths in acoustic design, facility operations, commissioning, and technology strategy.
This strategic merger expands JB&B's capabilities and offers employees:
  • Access to a broader portfolio of international projects and clients
  • Enhanced career mobility across Trinity's global network
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with experts in sustainability, environmental science, and digital infrastructure

SUMMARY OF ROLE:

Ready to work on some of the most high-profile and technically complex projects on the East Coast, especially here in New York City? As a Project Engineer at JBB, you'll join a team delivering impactful healthcare projects while also gaining exposure to a diverse portfolio across multiple sectors.
Candidates with additional experience in electrical engineering and mission-critical/data center environments are strongly encouraged to apply. Working under one of JBB's most respected leaders, you'll collaborate directly with clients and stakeholders, contribute to highly visible projects, and build a well-rounded career without being confined to a single market sector.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes design criteria from project proposals and assembles Basis of Design documents.
  • Leads design for all ancillary trade systems including UPS, generators, fuel oil, secondary water, and water reclamation systems.
  • Reviews shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor change orders; performs site visits and punch lists with limited supervision.
  • Assists in establishing project schedules that ensure effective use of resources and on-time delivery.
  • Holds team members accountable to deadlines and delivery expectations, regardless of their position.
  • Attends project meetings independently; provides technical expertise and communicates decisions clearly.
  • Assists in preparing proposals and managing add services; coordinates design and owner-directed changes.
  • Manages cross-discipline coordination to keep documents aligned and expectations met across the full project team.
  • Anticipates problems, addresses them proactively, and proposes solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Reviews and supports junior team members' work for quality and completeness.
  • Actively mentors engineers, including leading JB&B University courses.
  • Communicates project goals clearly to align all team members with client expectations.
  • Contributes to department standards and firm knowledge, including The Pine.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency in discipline-specific design calculations and tools (Revit, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of trade-specific scope, codes, and coordination requirements.
  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements for each project phase (SD, DD, CD, specifications).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage others and hold a team accountable to deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; comfortable leading meetings and representing the team.
  • Emerging project management skills, including proposal preparation and add services management.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering required.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience, or proven demonstration of project Engineer or Senior Engineer-level competencies.
  • Candidates with additional experience in electrical engineering and mission-critical/data center environments are strongly encouraged to apply.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has supervisory responsibilities. The Project Engineer directly manages, reviews, and mentors junior engineering staff on assigned projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements listed below represent the minimum standards that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this role successfully. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate verbally.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Required to periodically visit active construction sites; may be required to use ladders or lifts.
May be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with temperatures ranging from moderate to extreme cold or hot and other weather conditions.
