Job summary
This is an FTC role to provide Maternity leave cover for the Property and Treaty Lead role within Chaucer’s Exposure Management Team, across all Property and Treaty business. This role includes the line management and development of the Senior Analysts and Analysts across all Property and Treaty classes, in addition to the supervision of any external outsourced resources. The job holder requires an in-depth knowledge of catastrophe modelling and exposure management. The role includes dynamic interaction with the Property and Treaty Underwriters in providing them with an accurate view of their portfolio as well as with insightful analytics to support their strategy. The Property and Treaty Lead is responsible for ensuring that the exposure information used for the monthly roll ups and reporting is captured fully and accurately in the appropriate systems. The Property and Treaty Lead is responsible for the overall account modelling for underwriting and
pricing using internal and external modelling platforms, analysing, and explaining modelled results,
monitoring aggregate usage, and maintaining a complete and accurate portfolio of accounts.
In addition, this role requires working with underwriters and alongside the central exposure management team to assist in setting, monitoring and reporting on relevant internal and external appetites.
Working in conjunction with the Portfolio Manager to implement any new appetites as required.
The Property and Treaty Lead duties include implementing automation and identifying efficiencies for operational improvement, providing training to modellers / outsourcing team and any other ad hoc activities associated with the strategic aims of the Exposure Management Team. Working in conjunction with the Portfolio Manager, Specialty Lead and Emerging Risk Lead to ensure consistency and efficiencies across all classes.
Main duties
- Oversee the utilisation of various catastrophe modelling platforms to process, model and analyse aggregate and detailed exposure data
- Oversee the provision of analysis and insight into the model outputs to underwriters at both an account and portfolio level including the creation of pro forma modelling information to support the business plan
- Oversee the monitoring of portfolios against risk appetite measures
- Oversee the maintenance of the in-force Property and Treaty portfolio and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data and results
- Oversee the process for providing modelling information to outwards reinsurers for classes under the role’s remit.
- Work closely with Underwriting Management (Divisional Heads) to understand their priorities and manage their expectations accordingly and support any growth strategies
- Provide management, training and development of exposure analysts
- In conjunction with the Portfolio Manager, work closely with the R&D team to prioritise and contribute to the validation for both internal and externally licensed catastrophe models
Additional Responsibilities
- Participating in the wider activities of the Exposure Management Team
- From time to time, taking part in relevant projects throughout the wider business
- Keeping up-to-date with new science and technological developments in the Catastrophe Management field
- Performing other related duties to meet the on-going needs of the organisation

- Experienced Property catastrophe modeller
- Team management experience
Technical Skills

- Excellent numeracy skills with a good understanding of probability and statistics
- High level understanding of insurance and reinsurance financial terms
- Microsoft Excel and MS SQL
- High level of understanding of the statistical methodologies underlying catastrophe models
- A comprehensive understanding of Risklink
Desirable
- Knowledge of GIS and/or other mapping software
- Knowledge of or interest in programming languages, including R and Python
Qualifications

- Educated to degree level preferred but not essential for an excellent candidate
- Other relevant professional qualifications such as ACII, CRM or CCRA
