Job Overview

Assembly of Electrical Control Panels, Junction Boxes and wiring from prints. This position is responsible for the physical assembly, wiring and testing of control panels for industrial equipment. The Technician will fabricate controls to print, including layout and physical mounting of components to the back panel, wiring of all components, installation of control panel onto equipment, and testing to ensure proper operation. All duties must be performed in accordance with all company policies and procedures.

 

Rate

$26.40/hr - $36.00/hr

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Independently read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, panel layouts, bills of material, and other technical documentation to complete assigned work.
• Perform dimensioning and layout of back panels, enclosures, junction boxes, and related electrical assemblies in accordance with drawings and specifications.
• Mount and install electrical and control components to back panels and enclosures while maintaining proper spacing, alignment, and workmanship standards.
• Perform complex point-to-point wiring of relays, controls, PLCs, I/O modules, VFDs, interfaces, instrumentation, terminal blocks, power supplies, and other electrical components.
• Route, bundle, terminate, and label wires and cables neatly and accurately in accordance with established wiring and quality standards.
• Perform electrical testing and verification, including continuity and point-to-point checks, to confirm wiring accuracy and proper panel functionality.
• Independently troubleshoot wiring errors, electrical connections, and component malfunctions; identify root causes and perform appropriate corrections within the scope of the position.
• Verify completed assemblies against schematics, drawings, specifications, and applicable quality requirements prior to final inspection or testing.
• Identify drawing discrepancies, fabrication issues, or potential design concerns and communicate findings to the appropriate Engineer, Team Leader, or Supervisor.
• Accurately maintain red-line drawing markups for changes identified or required during fabrication and communicate changes for engineering review and revision.
• Install completed control panels and electrical assemblies onto equipment as required and assist with testing to verify proper operation.
• Exercise sound judgment when resolving routine technical and assembly issues, escalating complex design or engineering concerns as appropriate.
• Complete complex panel assemblies with minimal supervision while meeting established production schedules, quality requirements, and project deadlines.
• Maintain a high level of workmanship, accuracy, organization, and attention to detail throughout the assembly and wiring process.
• Communicate effectively with team members, leads, production personnel, engineers, and Project Managers regarding project status, technical issues, and required changes.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and company policies.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

• Perform other duties as assigned or as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may be asked mentor lower level employees. 

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a warehouse environment. This role routinely utilizes the operation of material handling equipment and various tools and machinery. 

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and work with various materials and/or tools, as well as work and bend at different heights, in various temperatures, and be on feet for an extended period of time. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in electrical systems, industrial controls, electronics, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in electrical control panel assembly, industrial electrical wiring, or a similar manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to independently read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, panel layouts, and technical drawings.
• Advanced experience with point-to-point wiring of electrical control panels, junction boxes, relays, controls, PLCs, I/O modules, VFDs, interfaces, instrumentation, and related components.
• Working knowledge of electrical theory, electrical terminology, wiring practices, and control panel assembly standards.
• Experience performing panel layout, component mounting, wire routing, termination, labeling, and final assembly with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot wiring errors, electrical connections, and component malfunctions and identify appropriate corrective actions.
• Experience using electrical testing and measuring equipment to verify proper wiring, continuity, and panel functionality.
• Proficiency in the safe use of standard hand tools, power tools, crimping tools, wire preparation equipment, and other tools associated with electrical panel fabrication.
• Ability to identify drawing discrepancies and accurately document red-line changes for review by Engineering or leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to consistently produce work that meets established quality, workmanship, safety, and production standards.
• Ability to independently prioritize assigned work, resolve routine technical issues, and complete complex panel assemblies within established deadlines.
