Position Overview

We are seeking a Junior Consultant Subject Matter Expert to support the DHA Armed Services Blood Program. Under the guidance of senior subject matter experts and program leadership, this individual will assist with research, analysis, documentation, and coordination related to transfusion medicine, blood product compatibility, and blood supply chain capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior SMEs with reviewing blood typing, crossmatching, and blood product compatibility practices.
• Conduct research on transfusion medicine practices, including differences between the United States and other countries.
• Collect and organize information on blood collection, processing, storage, and distribution capabilities.
• Support assessments of international blood supply chains by documenting capabilities, limitations, and potential gaps.
• Assist in preparing blood product compatibility reports, summaries, presentations, and supporting documentation.
• Review laboratory and program information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Coordinate with DoD military and civilian stakeholders to gather information, clarify requirements, and track assigned tasks.
• Support meetings by preparing materials, documenting discussions, and following up on action items.

Proposed Education and Experience Requirements

         Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Hematology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or            a related scientific field.

• Entry-level to two years of relevant experience in clinical laboratory operations, transfusion medicine, blood banking, or related scientific support.
• Relevant internships, clinical rotations, or laboratory training may be considered.
• Experience supporting DoD military or civilian customers is preferred.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Foundational understanding of transfusion medicine, blood typing, crossmatching, and blood product compatibility.
• Basic knowledge of blood collection, processing, storage, and distribution.
• Analytical and research skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to summarize scientific and technical information in clear written reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to follow technical guidance, manage assigned tasks, and work collaboratively with senior SMEs and program staff.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to blood banking, clinical laboratory testing, or blood supply chain operations.
• Familiarity with military healthcare environments or the Armed Services Blood Program.
• Experience assisting with technical reports, data collection, or scientific research.
