Overview

 

AtkinsRealis is looking for an experienced Risk Engineer (ideally Saudi National), who will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational, technical, safety, and business risks across projects and assets.

The role involves conducting risk assessments, recommending preventive measures, and supporting the organization in achieving safe, compliant, and reliable operations.

 

Your role

 

• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across infrastructure projects, assets, facilities, and operations to identify potential threats and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identify, assess, and evaluate strategic, technical, operational, commercial, safety, schedule, and cost-related risks that may impact project delivery and performance.
• Facilitate risk identification workshops and stakeholder sessions to proactively capture project risks, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative risk analyses utilizing recognized methodologies, including HAZOP, FMEA, Bow-Tie Analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), sensitivity analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations.
• Develop, maintain, and regularly update project risk registers, ensuring risks are appropriately categorized, assigned, monitored, and closed.
• Establish risk mitigation, contingency, and response plans to reduce project exposure and improve delivery certainty.
• Evaluate engineering designs, construction methodologies, and operational processes to ensure risk management principles are embedded during planning and execution stages.
• Monitor and assess risks associated with design development, procurement, supply chain management, construction activities, stakeholder interfaces, regulatory approvals, and operational readiness.
• Analyze incident investigations, audit findings, near misses, and failure reports to identify root causes, lessons learned, and preventive actions.
• Support project controls and planning teams by assessing the impact of risks on project schedules, budgets, resources, and key milestones.
• Review compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, client specifications, and corporate risk management frameworks.
• Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, value engineering workshops, and project stage-gate reviews to provide risk-based insights and recommendations.
• Prepare and present risk dashboards, heat maps, trend analyses, and executive risk reports to project leadership, clients, and governance committees.
• Support insurance risk assessments and coordinate with insurers, contractors, consultants, auditors, and regulatory authorities on risk-related matters.
• Assess contractor and consultant risk management practices to ensure alignment with project objectives and contractual requirements.
• Provide recommendations to enhance asset integrity, operational reliability, process safety, business continuity, and project resilience.
• Monitor emerging project risks, market conditions, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to strengthen risk management effectiveness.
• Establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and performance metrics to measure risk exposure and mitigation effectiveness.
• Support change management processes by evaluating the potential risk and opportunity impacts of project changes and variations.
• Promote a proactive risk management culture by providing guidance, training, and risk awareness sessions across project teams and stakeholders

 

About you

 

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related disciplie
• With at least 5 years of experience in Risk Management and has been involved in the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of project-specific Risk Management Frameworks
• Establish and maintain comprehensive risk registers, ensuring all strategic, technical, commercial, operational, schedule, and stakeholder risks are effectively identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated.
• Facilitate risk identification workshops, brainstorming sessions, and stakeholder engagement meetings to proactively capture emerging threats and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including probability-impact analysis, risk scoring, scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and Monte Carlo simulations.
• Develop risk mitigation, avoidance, transfer, acceptance, and contingency strategies to minimize project exposure and enhance project delivery certainty.
• Monitor critical project risks related to design, procurement, construction, regulatory approvals, stakeholder management, environmental impacts, and contractual obligations.
• Integrate risk management processes with project controls, planning, scheduling, cost management, and change management functions to provide a holistic project risk perspective.
• Evaluate schedule and cost impacts arising from identified risks and support the development of realistic contingencies and management reserves.
• Support project leadership and client teams in making informed decisions through risk-based analysis, reporting, forecasting, and recommendations.
• Establish Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and risk performance metrics to measure project risk exposure and monitor mitigation effectiveness.
• Prepare and present risk reports, dashboards, heat maps, and executive summaries for project leadership, clients, and governance committees.
• Ensure compliance with client risk management requirements, corporate governance standards, and contractual obligations.
• Assess contractor and consultant risk management practices to ensure alignment with project objectives and risk management expectations.
• Lead risk reviews at key project milestones, stage gates, and governance meetings to support effective project decision-making.
• Identify opportunities that deliver cost savings, schedule improvements, operational efficiencies, and enhanced project outcomes.
• Manage strategic and enterprise-level risks across large-scale infrastructure portfolios, programs, and mega projects.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary stakeholders, including engineering, construction, commercial, procurement, legal, and operational teams, to ensure risks are effectively managed across all project functions.
• Support claims avoidance and dispute mitigation through proactive risk identification, documentation, and management of contractual risks.
• Develop and deliver risk management training, awareness programs, and coaching sessions to strengthen risk culture across project teams.
• Provide independent challenge and assurance on project risk exposure, ensuring risks are accurately reflected in project forecasts, schedules, and delivery strategies.
