This job is responsible for developing and delivering the overall digital strategy for a major program or critical process. Key responsibilities include identifying strategic and operational risks and opportunities, building partnerships across the enterprise to drive priorities and project direction, and making complex judgement calls and impactful decisions to deliver material business impact for critical digital capabilities. Job expectations include coaching, developing talent, directing the work of multiple associates, and retaining day-to-day delivery accountability.

Sr. Digital Director, Active Investor Experience is tasked with defining and scaling Merrill's Consumer Investments digital trading ecosystem for active traders and sophisticated self-directed investors. The role leads strategy and platform modernization across trading, Merrill Edge MarketPro, portfolio management, advanced research, options, margin, and market intelligence capabilities. This leader will own the end-to-end digital trading experience, delivering intuitive, scalable, compliant, and high-performing solutions that empower informed investment decisions, strengthen trading confidence, deepen client engagement, and drive business growth. Additionally, the role will shape the strategic roadmap for next-generation trading capabilities, ensuring Merrill remains competitive in serving the evolving needs of active investors.

The ideal candidate is a strategic digital product leader who combines trading domain expertise with customer obsession, strong execution discipline, and the ability to lead through influence. This individual should be comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical levels, aligning senior stakeholders while helping teams make practical decisions that improve the client experience and business outcomes.

Responsibilities:

• Creates digital development strategies and process transformations to deliver industry leading solutions with impactful business results

• Manages a large program or a portfolio of projects overseeing timeline, budgets, and resource allocation

• Champions governance, risk management, and analytics best practices to drive roadmap and prioritization at the portfolio level

• Manages a program or portfolio business case, funding, progress status, promotion, and advocacy across the bank

• Crafts powerful narratives and storytelling to drive awareness and rally support amongst executives across the bank

• Builds alliances, negotiates, and influences stakeholders across multiple levels and functions within the bank to drive outcomes

• Demonstrates critical thinking and leverages findings and data to make informed decisions across digital delivery, prioritization, negotiation, hiring, and staffing activities

• Improved mobile and web trading adoption, engagement, and completion rates.

• Reduced digital trading friction, errors, service escalations, and abandoned workflows.

• Higher client satisfaction and confidence across stock, ETF, mutual fund, fixed income, margin, and options journeys.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in digital product management, financial services, brokerage, fintech, wealth management, or trading platform roles.

• Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing mobile and web product experiences from strategy through delivery and ongoing optimization.

• Strong understanding of retail brokerage trading and investing workflows, including stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, fixed income, margin, options, order types, market data, trade execution, account funding, positions, balances, approvals, disclosures, and post-trade servicing.

• Proven ability to build product roadmaps, prioritize complex backlogs, manage tradeoffs, and deliver outcomes.

• Experience partnering with engineering, UX design, architecture, operations, legal, compliance, risk, and customer-facing teams.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data, experimentation, research, and client feedback to inform decisions.

• Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders, present business cases, and translate technical concepts for senior audiences.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with real-time market data, advanced order entry, trading tools, watchlists, alerts, research integration, charting, investor education, mutual fund screening, fixed income search, margin tools, and options trading support experiences.

• Familiarity with brokerage regulatory expectations, digital disclosures, supervision workflows, trade controls, data privacy, accessibility, and operational resiliency.

• Experience modernizing legacy digital platforms, integrating APIs, and delivering scalable platform capabilities across complex enterprise environments.

• Background leading teams that support high-volume, high-availability client-facing platforms.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, technology, engineering, design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• MBA, advanced degree, product management certification, or securities industry credentials are a plus.

Minimum Education Requirement:  Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

Pay and benefits information

Pay range

$175,000.00 - $240,900.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary award based on their overall individual performance results and behaviors, the performance and contributions of their line of business and/or group; and the overall success of the Company.
