Senior Project Controls Manager

Overview

 

We are seeking a Senior Project Controls Manager to join our team in San Francisco, CA.

 

Your role

 

• Manage staff coordination and workload, and directly supervise and mentor the Project Controls team as a subject matter expert.
• Manage, revise, and maintain the status of detailed project cost estimates and forecasts, including all phases of project execution from design/engineering, material and equipment procurement, construction contracts, start-up activities, and project closeout.
• Track and analyze project costs, including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, and forecasts using Earned Value Management (EVM) methodology.
• Perform forecast and variance analysis (cost and schedule), trend analysis, risk analysis, contingency reserve evaluation, and maintain issue logs.
• Participate in the development and continuous improvement of project controls systems.
• Recommend improvements to project controls systems, tools, methods, and project management practices.
• Establish project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) in accordance with industry best practices.
• Assist in analyzing project controls requirements during the bid review process to ensure all cost control requirements are incorporated into contracts and purchase orders.
• Interact with project teams regarding cost codes, purchase order commitments, and change orders.
• Assist in creating detailed project budgets from estimates and developing cash flow projections.
• Work with senior project management staff to manage overall project cost control efforts.
• Collaborate with scheduling staff to develop, manage, revise, and update integrated project schedules covering all phases of project execution.
• Assist in the early identification of long-lead items, resource constraints, and required project start dates.
• Manage key project performance indicators and project commercial reporting.
• Manage internal job costing related to project fees, scope of services, resource requirements, job numbers, Project Status Reports (PSRs), and company reporting policies.
• Produce forecasts of total project costs, annual costs, and monthly cash flow costs, including variance analysis and supporting explanations.
• Manage the Risk Management process, including the identification, evaluation, mitigation, monitoring, and control of project risks.
• Assist in coordinating engineering and construction activities to align with overall project schedule requirements.
• Incorporate engineering and construction contractor schedules into the overall project schedule.
• Work with senior project management staff to ensure all contract deliverables and deadlines are achieved.
• Provide senior-level project management support, including financial and operational budgeting, forecasting, consolidation, analysis, business development, pricing, billing, and client/consultant relationship management.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

About you 

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus ten years relevant experience.
• Must have strong cost management, scheduling, and project planning and estimating skills, as well as the communication skills necessary to interface with external engineering, architectural and construction firms, suppliers, the management team and other organizations within client organizations.
• Must be able to use A/E and CM cost and/or schedule information to evaluate project status.
• Must have experience in developing budgets, cash flows, financial analysis and/or schedules.
• Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision making abilities.
• Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Must have thorough understanding of different types of contracts (Lump Sum, T&M etc.) and its implications on Project Management and overall project risks.
• Working knowledge of industry standard software and ERP, Planning & Scheduling, and cost management applications. Experience with Primavera and Microsoft Project is preferred.
• Must be adept at managing large dataset, preparing trend curves and performance dashboards and performing statistical and financial analysis in MS Excel or equivalent solution.
• Must thoroughly understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat,
• Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
• PMP – Project Management Professional (PMI) preferred.

Additional information  

Expected compensation range is between $200,000 - $240,000 annual salary depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
