We’re hiring a Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in geotechnical investigations, instrumentation review, slope stability and seepage assessments, and support for the design and surveillance of existing and new structures.

Minimum Requirements:

• 7 to 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in geotechnical/civil earthworks, particularly related to the design, construction, operations and performance monitoring of earthen dams, pit walls and dumps
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in civil / Geological/Mining Engineering from an accredited university. Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering discipline is considered an asset
• Geotechnical experience with mining, tailings, and oil sands operations, with related design and/or field experience considered an asset 
• Must be eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA and currently hold Professional Engineer status in Canada

Responsibilities:

• Able to take on responsibilities of an Intermediate to Sr. Geotechnical Engineer for existing or new structures, requiring a well-developed understanding of the drilling investigations, design, regulatory requirements, operations, operations, performance, closure and decommissioning strategies, and ongoing support to construction, operation, surveillance and reporting 
• Prepare technical documents to meet the Suncor Operation Excellence Management System (OEMS) requirements, for regulatory reporting requirements, work scopes for new construction and to address remedial actions for existing structures’ integrity.  
• Work under direction of engineers of records to support geotechnical investigations and analyses including slope stability, seepage, liquefaction, hydraulic fracture, settlement, and freeboard assessment
• Collaborate with other teams including Short and Long Range Mine Planning, Tailings Planning, Operations and Reclamation to understand plans, optimize designs and make geotechnical recommendations 
• Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers 
• Potential to develop into future Engineer-of-Record role with acquired experience

• You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta

• Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs 
• Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
