Overview

QuarterLine (QL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide comprehensive, high-quality nursing care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), JBLM, WA. The RN will care for critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical and surgical conditions across a range of ages and acuity levels.

 

This role requires a dependable nursing professional who can meet government qualification, credentialing, security, and onboarding requirements while working under a personal services arrangement. The ideal candidate will bring recent registered nursing experience in a primary care or occupational medicine setting, a current unrestricted RN license, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to supporting mission readiness and high-quality care for service members and eligible patient populations.

 

  • Duty Location: Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Tacoma, WA 98431. No Telework allowed.
  • Duty Hours:
    • Day Shift Duty Hours: 0700 - 1930; 0700 – 1730; 0700-1530; 0900-1930, 1100-1930; 0600-1630; 0900-1730; 0900-2130; 1100-2130;1200-2030; 0800-1630; 0830-1700; 0900-1730; 0930-1800; 1030-1900; 0530-1800
    • Evening Shift Duty Hours: 1100-2330; 1500-2330; 1500-0330; 1000-2230; 1200-0030;1500-0330; 1300-2330; 1300-2130; 1700-2330
    • Night Shift Duty Hours: 1900-0330; 1900-0730; 2300-0730; 2100-0730
    • 4-hour shifts may be implemented into the duty hours if needed by the unit.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment & Care: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients with complex medical and surgical conditions.
  • Critical Care: Manage patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring, vasopressors, ventilators, and other advanced life-support equipment.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform or assist with invasive and advanced procedures such as arterial lines, central lines, pulmonary artery catheters, chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, and other procedures within their scope.
  • Medications & Treatments: Administer medications using the Five Rights and through various routes, including IV, IM, oral, subcutaneous, transdermal, and rectal. Verify medication compatibility and appropriate use.
  • Emergency Response: Recognize life-threatening conditions and initiate lifesaving measures when necessary. Operate emergency equipment such as defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors and participate in rapid response/code teams as required.
  • Documentation: Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, medications, progress, admissions, discharges, and other required information in accordance with MAMC nursing standards.
  • Patient & Family Education: Act as a patient advocate, assess patient/family understanding, provide education, and document their level of understanding.
  • Direct Patient Care: Assist with hygiene, feeding, positioning, lifting, turning, transporting, range-of-motion exercises, linen changes, and other routine patient-care needs.
  • Communication & Coordination: Communicate patient status and pertinent information to physicians, charge nurses, and other healthcare providers. Participate in handoffs, care conferences, discharge planning, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Infection Control & Safety: Follow established infection-control procedures and address situations that could compromise patient or staff safety.
  • Quality & Risk Management: Participate in quality assurance, risk management, research, committees, and projects as assigned.
  • Staff Coordination: RNs may distribute or redistribute staff resources based on patient-care needs and the capabilities of available personnel.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain composure and professionalism when dealing with patients, families, and difficult or distressed individuals.
  • Emergency Readiness: Respond quickly and appropriately to cardiac/respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, trauma, psychiatric emergencies, and other critical situations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum one year experience within the last two years as a registered nurse assistant working in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
  • Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: The contract worker performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted license as a registered nurse.
  • Certification(s):
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Web-based (on-line) classes are not acceptable by the Government.
  • Degree/Education: Minimum of Associate’s degree in nursing. The school must be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and/or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). For education outside the United States, only the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing School reports are accepted (CGFNS), for overseas degree verification.
