Our team is a quickly growing group of committed architects, engineers, tradespersons, researchers, and business leaders. Our clients include Amazon, Mars Wrigley, and National Geographic, the firms shaping the world's most ambitious projects.
Role Overview
Roots Electrical is looking for a BIM Manager, Electrical to strengthen how our VDC teams model, optimize, and automate electrical projects. This role exists to ensure the technical success of our VDC team by maintaining strong BIM/VDC workflows, optimizing models and tools, and identifying opportunities to improve how our teams work. This person will help ensure our current processes and technology are being used effectively while also looking ahead to new tools, automation, and solutions that can improve efficiency and project delivery.
Success in this role means our VDC teams have the technical standards, workflows, tools, and support they need to approach projects effectively. This person will identify technical challenges, develop and implement solutions, and help plan the best technical approach for projects while continuously looking for ways to improve how the team works.
What You'll Do
- Audit Revit models across active Roots Electrical projects against company modeling standards, working independently to prioritize findings by risk and impact.
- Assess the current state of models and workflows, identify quick wins in performance and efficiency, and pilot an optimization strategy on a selected project.
- Build a consistent method for auditing model health, performance, and workflow efficiency, and use it to catch issues before they slow down delivery.
- Design and roll out a model health scoring system that tracks quality over time and keeps technical standards consistent across the team.
- Diagnose the root causes of model inefficiency, from bloated files to poor family management to non-standard workflows, and fix them directly alongside VDC Managers.
- Write, test, and document Revit API, Dynamo, or RevitPy scripts that automate repetitive modeling work, using AI and LLM tools where they genuinely speed things up.
- Build and maintain the templates, families, and shared assets that VDC Managers rely on every day, balancing speed with long-term consistency.
- Publish and maintain a Roots Electrical BIM standards and best practices document, keeping it current as Revit functionality evolves, and get sign off from studio leadership.
- Coach VDC Managers each quarter on model optimization techniques, and track measurable improvement in model quality across coached projects.
- Keep an eye on Revit release notes and emerging BIM optimization techniques, and bring forward the ones worth adopting.
What You'll Bring
- A genuine interest in the technical craft of modeling and problem solving, and satisfaction in seeing a model run faster or a script eliminate hours of manual work.
- Hands-on experience with Revit API, Dynamo, RevitPython, or similar tools, and an appetite to go deeper into automation and AI-driven workflows.
- The ability to run a technical investigation for weeks at a time without close oversight, and to document your conclusions clearly enough for others to act on them.
- A knack for translating technical findings into feedback that VDC Managers and team leads can use, even if they do not share your scripting background.
- A track record of building tools, templates, or standards that a team actually adopts, not just documentation that sits on a shelf.
Why VIATechnik
This role gives you direct exposure to Revit API, Dynamo, and RevitPy development, with room to grow from auditing and coaching into building a broader automation practice for the studio as those tools mature. You will have real latitude to investigate problems your own way, and your work will carry visible influence across every electrical project the studio runs, not just a single job.
Roots Electrical trusts its BIM Managers to set their own priorities and back that trust with clear, well documented results. This role is a strong fit if you thrive with autonomy and want to solve open-ended technical problems. It is not a fit if you prefer close direction or predefined task lists.
