Your mission

  • Mechanical and optomechanical design of scientific instruments: optical bench layouts, kinematic mounts, sample positioning mechanisms, structural enclosures
  • Thermal analysis and design of temperature control systems, including thermoelectric (Peltier) regulation for sample environments requiring sub degree stability
  • Electronics architecture definition: power distribution, signal routing, connector and cabling layouts for instruments combining lasers, detectors, and embedded computing
  • Resource budgets (mass, power, thermal dissipation) and technical content for system-level documentation and specifications
  • Prototyping, testing, and design iteration of hardware in close collaboration with the optics and software teams

Your profile

  • Graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, physics, optics or a closely related discipline
  • working  independently in a small, cross-disciplinary team.
  • self-motivated and proactive in concluding assigned tasks according to the company goals
  • Proficiency in 3D parametric CAD (SolidWorks) for precision mechanical assemblies and mechanism design
  • Thermal analysis of instrument-scale systems: steady-state and transient modelling, TEC/Peltier temperature control design
  • Prior experience in scientific instrumentation, laboratory equipment, or analytical device development
  • Understanding of how optical, mechanical, and electronic sub-systems integrate into a functioning instrument
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Swiss/EU citizenship or valid working permit for Switzerland
Experience in one or several of the following areas is advantageous:
  • Electronics design (power distribution, PCB layout, low-noise signal conditioning)
  • FEM simulation (structural or thermal)
  • Optics, photonics, or laser-based measurement systems
  • Space engineering standards (ECSS) or aerospace qualification processes
  • Hands-on prototyping (3D printing, CNC, soldering, laboratory assembly)
  • Good command of French and/or German
