Description
At Urban Utilities, our purpose is simple yet powerful – Enrich Quality of Life. With a $7 billion asset base and services spanning 1.5 million residents and more than 31,000 commercial customers across South East Queensland, we are committed to enhancing the liveability of our communities every day.
Your Opportunity
We have an opportunity in a newly shaped Strategic Asset Data Analyst role in our Infrastructure Planning & Delivery group.
This role sits within our Integrated Planning team, who are essential in shaping the vision and objectives of our policies and servicing strategies. The team is responsible for building, adapting and implementing plans for catchments, water supply zones and data systems to define performance targets, establish investment pathways and develop Strategic Business Cases, all driving an affordable, sustainable and deliverable portfolio to achieve key objectives.
Reporting to the Leader Strategic Asset Planning, the Strategic Asset Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting strategic asset management through the design, configuration, testing and application of advanced analytics tools and systems. Working at the intersection of asset management, engineering and data science, this role focuses on optimising renewal investment decisions and balancing cost, risk and performance outcomes across our asset portfolio.
This is not a traditional data analytics role. Success in the position requires an understanding of asset management principles and experience applying analytics to asset-intensive environments. Through the development of decision-support tools, scenario modelling, business intelligence and broader asset management activities, the role contributes to the continual refinement of our planning approach and helps build confidence in long-term investment decisions that deliver sustainable outcomes for our customers and communities.
Some of your accountabilities will include:
Undertake strategic and tactical asset investment planning, scenario modelling and forecasting across 10 to 100-year horizons to support long-term asset management strategies and critical business outcomes.
Apply advanced analytics, engineering and asset management principles to optimise renewal investment allocation and support evidence-based decision-making that balances cost, risk and performance.
Develop, enhance and maintain decision-support tools, business intelligence solutions and analytics frameworks that improve asset planning and investment confidence.
Make recommendations to improve data, analytics systems and platforms, contributing to the continuous improvement and refinement of our asset planning and analytics capability.
Contribute to the design and delivery of reporting strategies and insights, identifying complex trends and translating findings into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
Collect and analyse business requirements through interviews, workshops, document analysis and process mapping to ensure solutions meet user and business needs.
Partner with internal stakeholders to understand asset management challenges, identify opportunities and collaboratively deliver practical solutions.
Support broader asset management functions and planning activities across the organisation, contributing specialist analytics expertise to strategic and operational initiatives.
About You
We are seeking candidates who are passionate about shaping our future and ideally bring the following qualifications, skills and experience:
You have a growth mindset and are highly collaborative, proactively engaging stakeholders to align objectives and deliver customer and community-focused outcomes.
Experience applying data analytics, engineering or data science techniques within an asset management environment, ideally in the water, energy, resources, infrastructure or industrial sectors.
Demonstrated understanding of asset management principles and experience supporting asset planning, renewal programs, investment optimisation or asset performance initiatives.
Experience managing complex data science, engineering, business intelligence or advanced analytics tools and systems to generate high-value insights and support decision-making.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical findings into meaningful business outcomes.
Qualifications in Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics or a related discipline, or equivalent specialist industry experience and knowledge.
