Position Summary:
The Underwriter, Lender Placed Insurance (LPI), will support underwriting execution, risk evaluation, pricing analysis, and portfolio monitoring for LPI products including Mortgage Hazard, Auto CPI, Blanket/VSI, and Flood.
This individual will report to the Vice President of Underwriting and work closely with the Warranty & Lender Solutions underwriting team, business partners, and cross-functional stakeholders.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Stay informed on industry trends and emerging risks; share observations and support updates to underwriting approach and risk appetite as directed.
Underwriting experience in LPI, specialty insurance, lender-placed insurance, or related lines.
Ability to evaluate risk, interpret loss experience, analyze financial information, and prepare sound underwriting recommendations.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
Direct experience with Mortgage Hazard, Auto CPI, VSI/Blanket, and Flood products.
Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools. Experience supporting underwriting audits, pricing models, portfolio reviews, or client reporting.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Professional designations such as CPCU, AINS, or ARe, or progress toward a designation.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Underwriting Execution & Risk Evaluation:
Evaluate risk selection, pricing, and program structure for new and existing accounts within assigned authority and established underwriting guidelines.
Support the development and documentation of underwriting guidelines, pricing assumptions, and portfolio optimization initiatives in partnership with the AWLS management team.
Analyze portfolio performance, loss trends, audits, and KPIs; identify issues and prepare recommendations for corrective action.
Refer large, complex, special risk, or sensitive accounts to senior underwriting leadership with clear analysis and recommended next steps.
Portfolio & Client Support
Support relationships with clients, agents, and third-party administrators by providing timely underwriting analysis, documentation, and issue resolution.
Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to understand business objectives and align underwriting solutions and operational capabilities with program needs.
Operational Excellence & Governance:
Apply underwriting practices consistent with internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
Support the end-to-end underwriting lifecycle, including quote letter development, binding, policy issuance coordination, and post-bind activities.
Maintain accurate and complete underwriting documentation, pricing models, underwriting audits, and risk assessments.
Collaborate with Compliance, Actuarial, Claims, Premium Operations, Policy Administration, and Finance to support coordinated execution.
Data, Reporting & Insights:
Use analytics to assess profitability, monitor trends, and support underwriting decisions.
Review portfolio reports, loss projections, and performance metrics; summarize insights for underwriting leadership.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and enhanced reporting.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.
$75,000 - $83,000/year
Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
