The County of San Diego Auditor & Controller's Office has current openings for Revenue and Recovery Officer Trainee.
These positions may have a teleworking and/or flexible schedule available after an initial training period.
Auditor & Controller has offices in Vista, San Diego, El Cajon, and Chula Vista
FUTURE SALARY INCREASES
June 2027 – 5.10% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board + 2.10% Market Adjustment)
Revenue and Recovery Officer Trainees are responsible for the collection of debts owed to the County, assisting with victim services customer inquiries and assisting with the lien services demand process. Revenue and Recovery Officer Trainees obtain and analyze financial information; negotiate payment agreements; enforce collections through written correspondence, telephone and personal interviews; and determine the feasibility of pursuing litigation. Revenue and Recovery Officer Trainees also assist in the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of accounts receivable records. Revenue and Recovery Officer Trainees spend a large amount of time in contact with members of the public over the phone and in person.

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below:
- Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process begin in October 2026. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of full time clerical experience in a debt collection agency; OR,
- One (1) year of debt collection experience in a public, private, or retail credit or debt collection environment; OR,
- An associate of arts degree (AA) or higher from an accredited U. S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency.

Conditions of Employment
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Evaluation
The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based upon scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
