Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Unit Assistant, you will provide essential support and comfort to patients and staff, assisting other members of the healthcare team with providing basic patient care under the direction of a Staff Nurse.Every day you will manage patient registrations and scheduling, process orders and requisitions, and meticulously track charges to maintain accurate financial records.To be successful in this role, you will exhibit a helpful, compassionate demeanor, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining unit efficiency and team support within a dynamic healthcare setting.
- Technical Skills: Competent in psychomotor skills and technical procedures, includes proficiency in Health Information systems, supply orders, departmental data/reports.
- Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures.
- Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.
- Organizational Skills: Uses appropriate organization, priority setting and problem solving skills.
- Communication: Communicates clearly and effectively using proper communication etiquette and manages multiple phone and intercom lines.
- Uses medical terminology accurately. Includes reporting abnormals or change in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Job Requirements
Required
- One (1) year Unit Assistant/Clerk or equivalent in a healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- Proficient computer skills, demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Medical terminology course or equivalelnt knowledge.
Preferred
- Assisting in direct patient care.
