We have an opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join their team of staff in the Histopathology department.
This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.
Duties of this role include:
- Undertake the histopathological assessment of a progressively broad and complex range of surgical pathology specimens under appropriate Consultant supervision.
- Review relevant clinical information, previous pathology, imaging and other diagnostic information when formulating an appropriate histopathological assessment.
- Prepare clear, accurate and clinically meaningful draft diagnostic reports for Consultant review and authorisation.
- Perform macroscopic examination and complex specimen cut-up under Consultant supervision and within your demonstrated competence.
- Undertake increasingly complex specimen dissection as your experience, competency and scope of practice develop.
- Participate fully in PureLab-UK’s structured, competency-based Consultant Development Programme.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Primary medical qualification (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) recognised by the GMC.
- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise.
- FRCPath in Histopathology, or an appropriately recognised equivalent specialist pathology qualification where accepted by PureLab-UK.
- Significant experience in diagnostic Histopathology appropriate to appointment at Senior Clinical Fellow level.
- Demonstrable experience in surgical pathology reporting under Consultant supervision.
- Experience in the dissection and cut-up of surgical specimens, including complex specimens.
- Strong diagnostic and morphological skills with the ability to formulate differential diagnoses and appropriately select ancillary investigations.
- Experience of working effectively within a digital pathology environment.
- Good understanding of laboratory quality systems, clinical governance and patient safety.
- Ability to recognise the boundaries of personal competence and seek Consultant support appropriately.
- Strong analytical and clinical decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within medical, scientific and multidisciplinary teams.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to progression towards Consultant-level practice.
