The Opportunity

Aviva Canada Inc. has an excellent opportunity for an auto Underwriter. Our Mid-Market branch is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Commercial Lines Fleet Auto Underwriter. In this position, you will service a substantial portfolio of commercial auto business requiring a demonstrated underwriting ability and a commitment to customer service excellence. You will be involved in the underwriting of Fleet accounts.

👉 We welcome applicants with 5 years or more of insurance underwriting experience. We will determine level based on experience.

What you’ll do

• Assess and evaluate risk for new and existing fleet business

• Assist more junior underwriters with applying corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Intermediate); share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Junior)

• Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating

• Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels and policy form amendments

• Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of business

• Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process.

• Respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.

• Work with brokers to develop new business.

• Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio

• Provide above average customer service

What you’ll bring

• 5 years or more fleet underwriting experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated technical capability to independently manage a portfolio.

• Ability to provide guidance to junior underwriters.

• Strong organizational and administrative skills.

• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

• Strong computer skills.

• Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.

• Knowledge of RTM is an asset.

What you’ll get

• The salary band for this position ranges from $60,000 to $75,000 for the intermediate position and $70,000 to $85,000 for the senior position.  Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, as well as internal equity.
