Job Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist supports the administration of employee benefits, retirement programs, payroll-related data, HR records, and compliance processes. This role helps ensure accurate HRIS information, timely payroll processing, responsive employee support, and consistent maintenance of confidential personnel records. This full-time position reports to the Human Resources Manager and is based at the corporate office in Huntingburg, Indiana.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate benefit enrollment information in the HRIS to support eligibility, reporting, and carrier administration.
- Coordinates and conducts new-hire orientations and supports onboarding activities.
- Reviews benefits-related data for accuracy and completeness.
- Assists employees with benefit questions, claims issues, life event changes, and plan updates.
- Distributes benefits enrollment materials and confirms employee eligibility.
- Processes employee enrollments, changes, and life status updates with benefit carriers.
- Responds to benefits inquiries from employees and managers regarding plan provisions, enrollment, status changes, and general benefit matters.
- Administers leave-of-absence requests and related documentation, including medical, personal, disability, and FMLA leaves.
- Interprets and applies FMLA, ADA, and related leave requirements in coordination with HR leadership.
- Responds to 401(k) inquiries regarding enrollment, plan changes, contribution amounts, and annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
- Plans and supports employee events, including benefits enrollment meetings, company meetings, recognition events, holiday gatherings, and retirement celebrations.
- Supports payroll processing to help ensure accurate and timely payroll transactions, including wages, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Processes payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Supports compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour requirements, and HR best practices.
- Maintains current Certificates of Insurance for applicable vendors and contractors.
- Ensures required payroll, benefits, and safety-related documentation is complete, organized, and properly filed.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resources files, records, and documentation.
- Protects the confidentiality and integrity of human resources records and employee information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Two or more years of related HR, payroll, benefits, or administrative experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to use HR, payroll, and benefits systems effectively.
- Ability to quickly learn HRIS, payroll management, benefits administration, and related software applications.
