Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Speech-Language Pathology to start either Spring 2027 or Fall 2027, negotiated upon offer. The Assistant/Associate Professor will contribute to program development and academic leadership. Qualified candidates may be considered for department chair responsibilities in the future.

Our campus is designated a Hispanic-Serving and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Institution, and we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multicultural, and multilingual communities. Our program seeks candidates who are passionate about fostering success among our highly diverse student population as well as preparing students to advocate in a similar manner for their own clients/patients. Candidates should be able to teach speech-language pathology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly courses with a focus on adult neurological conditions.

About School of Education at Nevada State:

The School of Education (SOE) is an exciting place to be. More than 1,200 undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students are pursuing licensure programs in elementary and secondary, special education, as well as speech-language pathology and school psychology. In response to a statewide shortage of K-12 educators, speech-language pathologists and school psychologists, Nevada State University has made a strong commitment to building out the SOE to include the following academic programs: 

  • B.A. in Speech Pathology
  • B.A. in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education
  • B.A. in Elementary Education
  • B.A. in Elementary Education with special concentrations in Bilingual and Special Education
  • B.A. in Special Education with a concentration in Autism
  • ​B.A. in Secondary Education with concentrations in English and Social Studies​
  • ​B.S. in Secondary Education with concentrations in Biology, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences​
  • M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Ed.S. in School Psychology​

The School of Education building opened in the summer of 2021; in addition to being home for all SOE programs, faculty, and staff, the facility includes an early childhood education center, a speech-language pathology clinic and a Psychoeducational Mental Health Clinic.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to 4 courses per semester.
  • Teach speech-language pathology courses to graduate and undergraduate students in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online); majority in person/on campus. Approximately half of this instructional load will be dedicated to core courses in the speech-language curriculum.
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate clinical supervision of clinical practicums either on Nevada State campus or at RiteCare Clinic, as part of course load.
  • Academic advising and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with Nevada State University  colleagues, the local school district, and partner institutions to effectively prepare speech-language pathologists to work in the community. 
  • Participate in service within the School of Education, Nevada State University, and community. Serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
  • Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication and Hearing Sciences or a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be completed by December 31, 2026 for a Spring 2027 start date or by June 30, 2027 for a Fall 2027 start date.
  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
  • Eligible for Nevada State Licensure: capability of obtaining Nevada license to practice Speech Language Pathology by start of position. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in teaching graduate and undergraduate speech pathology courses. 
  • At least three years of clinical experience.
  • Experience with clinical supervision of at least 2 years.  
  • Experience working with diverse, first generation and non-traditional students. 
  • Interested in working with a developing team in an area of expertise.
  • Experience with program oversight and development.
  • Expertise in working with children and/or adult populations.
  • Experience in university teaching and clinical supervision at the graduate level.
  • Experience providing professional development and mentoring SLP instructors.
  • Experience with the ASHA Accreditation Process.
