Description
The City of Clinton is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and hardworking individual to join our Streets & Sanitation Division as a CDL Driver.

This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work operating City vehicles and equipment used for solid waste collection, street maintenance, grounds maintenance, and other Streets & Sanitation operations.
WHAT YOU'LL DOPrimary responsibilities include:
Operate sanitation trucks and other commercial vehicles used in Streets & Sanitation operations
Operate various City vehicles and equipment, which may include sanitation trucks, knuckle boom clam trucks, leaf trucks, asphalt trucks, street sweepers, dump trucks, sand spreaders, skid steers, forklifts, mowers, tractors, backhoes, and related equipment
Collect and transport solid waste, yard debris, and other materials
Assist with street, right-of-way, grounds, and general maintenance activities
Perform daily pre-trip and equipment inspections
Identify and report vehicle or equipment malfunctions
Perform routine cleaning, fueling, greasing, and basic maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment
Maintain required inspection and maintenance documentation
Safely operate hand and power tools as needed
Assist other crew members with daily assignments
Follow City policies and all applicable safety and DOT requirements
Respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in standby/on-call assignments when required
Perform other duties as assigned
High school diploma or GED from an acceptable accredited program, supplemented by at least six months of experience in municipal streets and sanitation operations, equipment operation, general maintenance work, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of acceptable education, training, and experience
Valid driver's license and safe driving record
Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or ability to obtain a Class B CDL within six (6) months of employment
Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles, trucks, equipment, and tools associated with the position
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance
Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and the public
Commitment to safe work practices
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to applicable U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements, including random drug and alcohol testing.
Employees must maintain all licenses and qualifications required to operate assigned vehicles and equipment.
PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONSThis is an active position that requires working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, which may include:
Walking, standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, crouching, climbing, and bending
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, tools, and equipment
Entering and exiting commercial vehicles and heavy equipment
Operating vehicles, machinery, hand tools, and power tools
Working outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, pollen, and other environmental conditions
Wearing required personal protective equipment, including safety footwear and appropriate head, hand, and eye protection
