This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood Mountain & Lake Club, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California.

Homewood Mountain & Lake Club is seeking a Paramedic Ski Patroller to join the Patrol Department.

Job Summary:

This position combines professional ski patrol responsibilities with advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical care in a challenging mountain environment. The ideal candidate is an experienced paramedic and strong skier or snowboarder who can provide high-quality emergency medical care, perform technical mountain rescue operations, and work effectively in adverse weather and remote terrain.
 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Respond to medical emergencies and traumatic injuries throughout the resort.
  • Perform patient assessment, stabilization, treatment, and evacuation.
  • Provide ALS care within scope of practice, protocols, and medical direction.
  • Perform advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, 12-lead ECGs, IV/IO access, medication administration, and other ALS interventions as authorized.
  • Manage cardiac, respiratory, traumatic, environmental, and other medical emergencies.
  • Perform CPR, defibrillation, hemorrhage control, splinting, and spinal motion restriction.
  • Provide patient care during evacuation and coordinate handoff with local EMS and receiving facilities.
  • Conduct routine mountain opening and closing procedures and assist with hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Perform on-snow rescues and patient evacuations using toboggans and other rescue equipment.
  • Participate in avalanche response and rescue operations, including beacon searches, probing, and patient extrication.
  • Assist with lift evacuations, lost-person searches, and other mountain emergencies.
  • Maintain equipment and complete accurate patient care documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Ski Patrol, resort departments, local EMS, fire, law enforcement, and other emergency response agencies.
  • Provide professional guest service while promoting a safe mountain environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Current California Paramedic License and/or eligibility to practice as a paramedic in California.
  • Current BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS, and ITLS certifications.
  • Expert alpine skiing ability.
  • Ability to meet all physical and operational requirements of professional ski patrol.
  • Ability to safely ski in varied terrain and operate a rescue toboggan.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in cold, snow, wind, and changing weather.
  • Travel through steep, uneven, and remote mountain terrain.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver patients and rescue equipment.
  • Perform physically demanding rescue operations, including prolonged CPR.
  • Work effectively at elevation and in situations where access to additional resources may be delayed.
  • Previous ski patrol, mountain rescue, or emergency medical experience preferred.

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

The Company’s good faith estimate of the hourly rate it expects to pay for this role is $36-$45 and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
