The Opportunity:
The Director of Commercial Forecasting & Insights is a key leadership role responsible for leading North America's Commercial Planning & Insights function. This role serves as the strategic intelligence, forecasting, and decision-support leader for the organization across the United States and Canada, providing the insights, analyses, forecasts, and recommendations that enable commercial leadership to make informed, forward-looking business decisions and drive sustainable growth.
The position is responsible for leading North America's forecasting, strategic analytics, competitive intelligence, and commercial planning capabilities. Working closely with Commercial Excellence, Finance, Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Global Strategic Marketing, and Program Management teams, the Director will lead a team to integrate diverse data sources and perspectives into a coherent view of business performance, market opportunities, competitive risks, and future growth opportunities.
The Director will lead a team of managers, analysts, and external partners while building the capabilities, processes, and insights necessary to support both near-term execution and long-term business success.
This role is critical in ensuring the organization maintains a clear understanding of business performance, competitive dynamics, market evolution, and commercial opportunities, allowing leadership teams to make confident, fact-based decisions that strengthen Abbott Diabetes Care's market position. This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA.
What You’ll Work on:
Forecasting & Commercial Planning
Lead United States and Canada forecasting processes, including quarterly refreshes of annual forecasts, annual refreshes of long-range forecasts, forecasts for product launches and business initiatives, and scenario planning.
Translate market dynamics, competitive developments, reimbursement trends, customer adoption patterns, and business initiatives into forecasts that support strategic decision-making.
Establish forecasting methodologies, assumptions, and processes that support effective business decision-making.
Serve as North America’s leading authority on future business performance and growth expectations.
Strategic Analytics and Business Insights
Deliver actionable insights and recommendations through the integration of business performance, market dynamics, forecasting outputs, and competitive intelligence.
Lead executive presentations, business reviews, and decision-support analyses for senior leadership.
Identify opportunities, risks, emerging trends, and competitive developments that impact business performance and translate them into business implications and recommendations that inform planning, forecasting, and commercial decision-making.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Lead key commercial review processes and forums that support organizational alignment, accountability, and decision-making.
Serve as a strategic advisor to Commercial Leadership on business performance, market opportunities, and future growth scenarios.
Build strong partnerships across Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Finance, Commercial Excellence, Global Strategic Marketing, and Program Management.
Building & Leading Teams
Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of managers, analysts, and external partners.
Allocate resources and priorities to maximize business impact.
Develop talent and organizational capabilities to support current and future business needs.
Building Organizational Capability
Continuously improve forecasting, planning, analytics, and insight-generation capabilities.
Drive adoption of new tools, technologies, and analytical approaches that improve decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree required in Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Analytics, Marketing, Life Sciences, or related disciplines.
10+ years of experience with a successful track record in forecasting, analytics, strategic planning, or FP&A. Experience in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, diagnostics, or related professional services required.
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to connect market dynamics, business performance, and strategic priorities.
Experience leading managers and developing high-performing teams.
Proven experience developing and implementing forecasting models, strategic analyses, market assessments, and business planning processes.
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information from a wide range of internal and external sources into meaningful business insights and recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across complex matrix organizations without direct authority.
Demonstrated success managing ambiguity, leading change, and balancing multiple priorities in fast-paced business environments.
Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
Strong executive presence and experience presenting to senior leadership and executive-level stakeholders.
Proven ability to develop talent, build organizational capabilities, and lead teams through growth and transformation.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred due to the business complexity of the position.
