About this Role
Power Engineering Services, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for Sr. Electrical Testing Technicians (NETA 4) to join our growing teams across our Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, TX markets.
As a Sr. Electrical Testing Technician at Power Engineering Services, you are the senior technical authority in the field. You will supervise large projects and multiple crews, perform complex investigations and evaluations, own the final technical product delivered to the customer, and develop the technicians coming up behind you. This is the top of our field testing ladder and the primary point of contact for all field service issues and requests.
What You'll Do
- Supervise large projects and multiple crews from initiation through closeout, working independently with minimal oversight.
- Perform complex investigations, tests, and evaluations on power systems and equipment, including protection and control schemes, power quality studies, and failure analysis.
- Own the final test report package — review, validate, and approve the work of Level 2 and Level 3 technicians and issue recommendations to the customer.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all field service issues and requests, including scope development, change conditions, and escalations.
- Establish and enforce safe work practices across the crew, including energized work permitting, lockout/tagout, arc flash and shock hazard analysis, and NFPA 70E compliance.
- Mentor and train Trainee (NETA 1), Assistant (NETA 2), and Certified (NETA 3) technicians, and verify documented experience supporting their certification advancement.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues and to develop test procedures for non-standard scopes.
- Support estimating and project planning by developing scopes of work, labor and equipment requirements, and schedule input.
- Ensure compliance with NETA standards, ANSI/NETA ATS and MTS specifications, and customer specifications throughout testing operations.
- Drive quality and consistency across crews by standardizing procedures, documentation, and equipment readiness.
What You'll Bring
- NETA Level 4 (Senior Certified Technician) Certification.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, consistent with ANSI/NETA ETT Level 4 experience requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (preferred); associate degree, technical/trade school certificate, or military electrical training also considered.
- Proven experience in technical services management, with a focus on electrical systems and NETA standards.
- Experience and working knowledge of electrical codes and standards, such as NEC, NESC, NFPA 70E, and applicable IEEE and ANSI standards.
- Demonstrated success supervising multiple crews and managing concurrent projects, including scheduling, resourcing, and customer communication.
- Expert-level proficiency with relay test sets, power factor and insulation resistance testing, primary and secondary injection, breaker timing, transformer testing, and protection and control commissioning.
- Track record of developing junior technicians and building bench strength on a testing crew.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and customer site-access requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry test equipment up to 50 lbs and to work outdoors in varying job-site conditions.
- Willingness to travel to job sites and to work off-hours, nights, weekends, and scheduled outages as project needs require. Travel may include assignments outside your home area, including out-of-state travel and overnight stays.
- Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for tackling new challenges with a commitment to finding optimal solutions.
