In this role, you will be a key member of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) within Western Union's Global Compliance organization. The FIU is responsible for identifying, investigating, and mitigating risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and other financial crimes. As an FIU Investigator, you will analyze complex consumer activity identified through transaction monitoring systems and external referrals, investigate suspicious patterns and trends, and determine appropriate risk-based actions. You will be responsible for conducting investigations, documenting findings, preparing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), performing enhanced due diligence reviews, and supporting efforts to detect emerging risks and typologies.

Success in this role requires strong analytical and investigative skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a global environment with stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Investigate high-risk consumers and complex financial crime cases.

  • Analyze transactional activity and identify suspicious patterns, trends, and potential risks.

  • Conduct investigations using internal systems, public sources, and third-party research tools.

  • Prepare clear and concise Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and investigation summaries.

  • Perform consumer enhanced due diligence reviews and recommend appropriate risk-based actions.

  • Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and other stakeholders to support investigations and decision-making.

  • Monitor emerging money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud typologies.

  • Contribute to team reporting, intelligence briefings, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate case documentation and ensure investigations are completed in line with regulatory requirements.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in AML, financial crime investigations, compliance, banking, payments, fintech, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of AML regulations, suspicious activity investigations, and risk-based compliance practices.

  • Experience conducting complex investigations and assessing financial crime risk.

  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Experience with investigative and research tools such as LexisNexis, World-Check, or Factiva is an advantage.

  • Knowledge of the money remittance industry and foreign language skills are a plus.

Salary

The monthly gross base salary range is 2,562.5 - 3,416 EUR. This range represents anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible for an annual variable target incentive (which may include long-term incentives, if eligible) that aligns with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidate’s qualifications, skills and competencies.
