Onsite – Cleveland, OHMoog’s Space & Defense – Power & Data group is seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer in Highland Heights, OH.
The Manufacturing Automation Engineer (MAE) is responsible for transforming existing manual production procedures into automated, scalable, processes through the implementation of robotics, innovative software, and Moog’s internal AI client. This role will support all four production floors (Transceivers, Simplex Cables, Complex Cables, and FORCE), and work closely with Design Engineering, Software Engineering, and IT, leading cross-functional projects to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.
This full-time, salaried position reports to the Operations Manager and work is performed onsite at Moog’s Highland Heights, OH facility. Relocation assistance is available!
As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will:
Automation Integration
- Examine and understand each aspect of Moog’s production process and determine potential areas for automation implementation.
- Perform time studies and PFMEAs to develop baselines for data tracking and performance improvement.
- Create comprehensive technical specifications, including functional requirements, integration methods, and safety features.
- Research available equipment, evaluate vendor proposals, and submit capital expense requests for validated solutions.
- Onboard, integrate, program, and verify new equipment into production processes.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, operation diagrams, and code libraries within Moog’s existing document control system.
- Provide training, support, and handover over automation equipment to the Production and Manufacturing Process Engineering teams.
- Monitor existing automation projects for performance, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Cross-Functional Performance
- Lead automation initiatives from concept through commissioning, including scope definition, timelines, and communication with stakeholders.
- Integrate automation equipment with plant networks, MES, ERP, and data systems in partnership with IT.
- Work with the Environmental Health and Safety team to ensure compliance with regulatory and operational safety standards.
- Coordinate with Facilities to confirm infrastructure readiness for equipment deployment.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Process and Software Engineers to align automation projects with process optimization and lean principles.
- Engage the Production and Planning teams to ensure automation supports production goals and workflows.
- Maintain and provide project status to keep Site Management and other relevant stakeholders informed on project implementation timelines, potential risks, and existing issues/changes.
Performance Expectations
- Develops and delivers projects on schedule and within the proposed budgets.
- Ensures new projects are viable operationally and financially and can achieve the projected ROI.
- Supports Production and Engineering teams with process improvement, design for automation initiatives, and new product introduction.
- Creates and maintains accurate and informative project plans, status updates, risk and issue registers, change logs, and acceptance metrics, and provides them to Team and Site Management at accepted intervals.
- Drives measurable improvement tracked by mutually agreed upon key performance indicators for efficiency, downtime, and throughput.
- Ensures the integrity of all reports and data captured in Department.
- Meets AS9100 process compliance in the execution of the department’s objectives.
- Manage tasks or projects and ensures defined work output is completed from start to finish on time and within budget.
To be considered for the Manufacturing Automation Engineer role, here’s what you’ll typically need to bring with you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience, specific experience in manufacturing automation preferred.
- Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Proven experience in industrial automation, equipment specification, and manufacturing project delivery.
- Knowledge of control systems (PLC, HMI, robotics) and integration with IT systems.
- Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
It’d be great if you had:
- Basic knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 is a plus.
- Experience in the electronics manufacturing or aerospace and defense manufacturing industry preferred.

Salary Range Transparency:

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
