Job Description:
At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money and ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money - we're here to move our global customers forward. We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career, we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide, united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.
About the Role
We're hiring an Engineering Manager (IV) to lead one of our Kraków engineering teams within Global Money Movement. Depending on team needs at the time of hire, you will lead one of three teams: Money Movement (MoMo), which orchestrates the movement of money across our global payment network and owns integrations with external banking and payment partners; Financial Instruments (MoFi), which builds and operates Remitly's financial-instruments platform; or User Financial Accounts (UFA / Accounts), which is building Remitly's new general-purpose ledger platform - the foundation for user wallets and balances. These platforms run on AWS and support high-throughput, high-availability services that are critical to Remitly's products and regulatory obligations.
As the manager of one of these teams you will own delivery, technical direction, and team health. You will lead a team of roughly 6-12 engineers - including senior and, on some teams, staff-level ICs - set long-term strategy in partnership with product and platform leadership, and represent your team to senior stakeholders across Engineering, Product, and our Seattle-based partner teams. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager based in Kraków.
To succeed you should operate with a high degree of autonomy and judgment, be comfortable owning an executive-visible mandate, and be as motivated by growing engineers and building a healthy team culture as by technical strategy and delivery. You should enjoy tackling complex, ambiguous problems, make sound trade-offs and have the backbone to defend them.

You Will
- Own all aspects of people management for your team - hiring, team structure, performance management, and career development - including performance reviews, ongoing feedback and coaching, and creating meaningful growth opportunities for engineers up to and including senior and staff levels.
- Set and drive multi-quarter technical and delivery strategy in partnership with product and platform leadership, and adapt it as priorities evolve.
- Lead the team through complex initiatives - which, depending on the team, may include new-market launches, platform migrations, or scaling core money-movement services - keeping leadership and stakeholders aligned on progress, milestones, and risk.
- Partner with senior and staff engineers on architecture and technical direction, holding a high bar for correctness, reliability, and long-term maintainability in regulated, high-availability financial systems.
- Represent your team across a cross-functional, cross-timezone landscape (Product, banking and payment partners, and Seattle partner teams), influencing without authority and escalating when necessary without alienating colleagues.
- Champion engineering and operational best practices - define metrics and processes for delivery health, quality, and on-call excellence, and lead cross-team process improvements.
You Have
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of software development experience, including backend (e.g., Java/Kotlin, Go), and familiarity with relational and non-relational data stores.
- 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a strong track record on platform or distributed-systems teams.
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems on public cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), ideally in a regulated or high-availability domain.
- Experience mentoring and growing engineers up to Senior and Staff level, and developing or coaching emerging leaders.
- Experience leading across two or more sub-teams, or through tech leads and emerging managers.
- Experience hiring and technically interviewing candidates across levels.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication across time zones, and the judgment and backbone to make and defend hard trade-offs.
You will lead a team building the platforms Remitly's business runs on - moving money across borders and, increasingly, managing customer financial accounts - with real autonomy, executive visibility, and strong, domain-deep teams to grow and lead. It is high-stakes, high-ownership leadership at the core of the company's money-movement infrastructure.
