Description
This is an on-site position requiring regular attendance on-campus.
Specific responsibilities:
Provides management and supervision to all staff in the Accounting Services department; Responsible for recruiting and hiring qualified personnel, ensuring proper training, performance monitoring, establishing expectations, and effectively evaluating staff performance.
Manages monthly and year-end closings, which require numerous reconciliations and entries. Assists with financial audits by independent auditors. Locates control weaknesses and implements cost/beneficial controls.
Serves as a functional subject matter expert, collaborating closely with a cross-functional team and external partners; Supports and leads the Accounting Services team; partners with the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to provide insight on reports needed by departmental /divisional /college.
Completes appropriate federal and state tax reporting promptly to ensure the college maintains compliance. Oversees preparation of monthly sales tax returns, yearly 1099 information returns, and reconciliation of College bank accounts.
Performs a variety of financial analyses, reconciliations, and reporting (i.e., monitors and reconciles the college’s self-insured health and dental insurance plans).
Maintains proper accounting, tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of fixed assets. Provides expertise for accounting-related questions, including grant payment compliance.
Serves on college-related committees, task forces, and ad hoc groups as needed.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervision Exercised Over:
Accountant, Assistant Director-Endowment Management, Accounts Payable Specialist
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant preferred.
5+ years supervisory experience.
10+ years of accounting experience.
Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and Single Audit rules.
Experience in a post-secondary education finance environment preferred.
Experience with Workday and Banner preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of process controls.
Skilled in using computerized accounting systems.
Ability to make independent decisions, exercise judgment, meet deadlines, and handle problem situations with minimal supervision.
Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in complex and delicate situations.
Ability to resolve customer service issues and communicate effectively.
Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed. Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word preferred.
Skilled at organizing projects and seeing them through to completion.
