Responsible for maintaining the original accounting records of the hospital, assisting departmental management with financial management of operations, and assisting in the overall operation of the Accounting Department. Under the general direction of the Director of Accounting, responsible for an assigned shift, 40 hours per week. Employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs month-end and year-end accounting procedures, including the preparation of journal entries for general ledger accounts.
- Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts to supporting detail on a monthly and yearly basis, proposing adjustments as necessary to ensure proper accounting.
- Performs analysis of financial activity on a monthly basis for assigned accounts.
- Serves as a financial representative for assigned affiliates, divisions or departments, developing a working relationship with departmental management with dual objectives of a) supporting management by providing information and assistance in financial matters and b) challenging management on significant variances and issues having a material impact on financial performance.
- Develops and maintains certain subsidiary financial records and databases as assigned.
- Proactively identifies gaps in procedures and offers solutions to improve processes.
- Assists management and responsible persons in understanding reported financial information. Assists in preparation of the annual operating budget, as required.
- Assists external and internal auditors in audit procedures.
- Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts and techniques of the Accounting profession. Completion of a baccalaureate degree in Accounting or a related field with 24 hours of upper level accounting courses required. Masters of Business Administration preferred.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
- Certification as a CPA is preferred, but not required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Skill and proficiency in accounting systems, general ledger and financial reporting as normally acquired through three to five years of accounting experience including two years in a health care organization.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures as acquired through 3 months orientation.
- Demonstrated understanding of current accounting practices and techniques in the healthcare industry.
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new responsibilities with varying levels of difficulty, with minimal daily direction from manager.
- Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of accounting and budgeting software.
- Ability to use 10-key calculator at a proficient speed.
