Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer provides hands-on production support and independently owns manufacturing engineering activities for assigned production areas. This role partners closely with Production, Quality, Program Management, Planning, Automation, Document Control, and other engineering resources to improve safety, quality, throughput, delivery, cost, and efficiency. The Manufacturing Engineer troubleshoots and resolves production issues, improves manufacturing processes and documentation, supports manufacturing readiness, executes engineering studies, drives continuous improvement, and helps ensure production can operate safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Independently own manufacturing engineering activities for assigned production areas, including production troubleshooting, process documentation, manufacturing readiness, engineering studies, tooling and process improvements, and resolution of issues affecting safety, quality, delivery, cost, and throughput.
  • Drive and support implementation of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous-improvement initiatives within production cells, including 5S, identification of the seven wastes, process mapping, and structured problem solving.
  • Partner directly with production associates to identify manufacturing issues, build operator trust, capture process knowledge, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Own and improve manufacturing procedures, work instructions, standard work, and related process documentation; perform document-change activities and ensure production requirements are accurately reflected.
  • Generate and manage engineering work orders and purchase/fabrication requests for production tooling and equipment.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, qualification, and improvement of tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collect, analyze, and report production and process data; apply basic statistical methods to identify trends, support decisions, and drive process improvements.
  • Lead or support structured root-cause investigations and corrective actions using tools such as 5 Why, fishbone analysis, PFMEA, process hazard analysis, and other appropriate problem-solving methods.
  • Plan, execute, analyze, and summarize engineering studies and experiments, including Design of Experiments (DOE), engineering builds, testing, and pre-production builds.
  • Support production readiness reviews, project kickoff activities, and Sales Order Kickoff (SOCO/SOKO) activities by verifying tooling readiness, calibration status, manufacturing documentation, and other production requirements.
  • Maintain manufacturing parameter databases and ensure approved production parameters and requirements are accurately incorporated into manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for manufacturing automation and equipment/process improvements; support initial troubleshooting and partner with Automation and Equipment Engineering resources on implementation and data-driven improvements.
  • Collaborate daily across Production, Quality, Safety, Program Management, Planning, Document Control, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Automation, and other stakeholders to coordinate issue resolution and escalate barriers appropriately.
  • Capture and document tribal knowledge from experienced production personnel to strengthen manufacturing procedures, standard work, training effectiveness, and long-term process sustainability.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support to production areas without dedicated Manufacturing Engineering resources when required.
  • Influence without direct authority, communicate effectively across organizational levels, take ownership of issues through resolution, support teammates, and recognize when escalation is required.
  • Disposition and approve nonconformance reports (NCRs) within assigned authority, partnering with Quality and other stakeholders to drive timely, technically sound resolution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience supporting production operations in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting manufacturing or process issues and applying structured root-cause analysis and corrective-action methods.
  • Experience developing, revising, or controlling manufacturing processes, procedures, work instructions, standard work, or similar production documentation.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing manufacturing or process data and using results to support technical decisions and process improvements.
  • Ability to work effectively on the production floor and collaborate across Production, Quality, Safety, Planning, Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to independently manage priorities, own technical issues through resolution, and communicate effectively with operators, technical peers, and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, energetic-device, semiconductor, medical-device, or another regulated/high-reliability manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, seven wastes, 5 Why/fishbone analysis, process mapping, PFMEA, DOE, and continuous-improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with tooling and fixture development, manufacturing readiness, engineering/pre-production builds, and production launch support.
  • Experience supporting automation, manufacturing equipment, or process-improvement projects in partnership with automation/equipment engineering resources.
  • Experience with manufacturing parameter databases, engineering work orders, document-control/change processes, and production-readiness systems.
