Assistant Director | Experiential Learning in Entrepreneurship | McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

This role is foundational to helping Georgetown Entrepreneurship effectively serve the greatest number of Georgetown students through cocurricular programming focused on helping those students develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and with a foundational belief in “entrepreneurship for the common good”. The Assistant Director will help students from across Georgetown University identify and pursue their dreams, whether that dream is building a startup from the ground up, working at a startup, or taking their entrepreneurial passion and mindset to the corporate, government, or nonprofit worlds.

The Assistant Director will support the Georgetown Entrepreneurship leadership team with all administrative and operational tasks and will have primary oversight over the build-out and ongoing execution of experiential learning opportunities. The position and overall Georgetown Entrepreneurship fit with the overall mission and goals of Georgetown University because the mission is to create a culture of entrepreneurship throughout the Georgetown University community and to ensure that every graduate and undergraduate student has the opportunity to explore and experience what it means to have an entrepreneurial mindset. The mission is synonymous with “men and women for others” and “entrepreneurship for the common good” as the entrepreneur is innately a job creator and creator of good for society.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Direct oversight and support of multiple entrepreneurship-related student clubs at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Create and implement programs focused on specific special interests such as Entrepreneurship and Health, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, and Venture Capital

  • Startup internship programs

  • Living-learning communities

  • Speaker events

  • Maintain a database of student engagement

  • Provide management support for Georgetown Entrepreneurship's day-to-day administrative and operational tasks.

  • Provide regular budget updates and financial information to the team

Work Interactions

The Assistant Director directly reports to the Managing Director of Georgetown Entrepreneurship. They primarily interact with students and student groups via student programming and program development; and supervise and manage student associates throughout the year.

The work performed by this position fits into the overall scheme of Georgetown Entrepreneurship by ensuring that the finer details associated with program functions are fulfilled. The Assistant Director will interact with all members of the Georgetown Entrepreneurship team, staff and alumni startups located at the Venture Lab downtown DC at WeWork 200 Mass Ave, Pivot Fellows, current students, other Georgetown affiliated staff and faculty as needed, and outside employers as needed for the internship program.

Additionally, they work closely with other members of the Georgetown Entrepreneurship team, especially colleagues from the Entrepreneurs in Residence, Venture Advisors, and Experts on Call programs, the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance, and the McDonough School of Business marketing and communications team. The Assistant Director represents the McDonough School and the Entrepreneurship Initiative accurately and persuasively in front of both external and internal audiences, including prominent members of the DC business and startup communities, alumni, donors, current and prospective students.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 2-3 years events management experience, budget management experience, and student programming experience

  • Project management and leadership skills

  • Strong computer skills particularly with Microsoft Office software applications

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to manage others – preference for student intern management experience

  • Critical and strategic thinking skills, with an analytic approach to continually refine best practices and innovate

  • Excellent and diplomatic interpersonal and communication skills in person, by phone, and email

  • Ability to work independently and with Georgetown Entrepreneurship colleagues

  • Ability to envision, plan, execute, and evaluate events, and a strong ability to multitask

  • Basic knowledge of Salesforce, AirTable, or other customer relationship management (CRM) solution system

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
