Description

Flagship Pioneering is a scientific innovation engine that invents and builds companies that change the world. We bring together the greatest scientific minds with entrepreneurial company builders and assemble the capital to allow them to take courageous leaps in human health, sustainability, and beyond.

What sets Flagship apart is our ability to advance biotechnology by uniting life science innovation, company creation, and capital investment under one roof in a way that is largely without precedent. Our team of scientists, entrepreneurial leaders, and professional capital managers are each aligned around an institutionalized process that enables us to innovate and create breakthroughs for the benefit of people and planet.

Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture.

Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been named four times to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.

Position Overview

  • Develop and evolve Flagship's visual design system by creating scalable presentation templates, graphic libraries, icons, illustrations, diagrams, animated assets, logos under the Flagship suite of brands, and other reusable assets that enable teams across the organization to create high-quality, on-brand materials efficiently and consistently.
  • Serve as a visual design expert across the organization, providing  hands-on execution and support to internal teams to determine the most effective visual approach for communicating ideas, initiatives, and complex information.
  • Utilize emerging creative technologies—including AI-powered design and content generation tools—to improve efficiency, unlock new creative capabilities, expand the use of animation and interactive storytelling where appropriate, and continuously modernize Flagship's visual communications.
  • Stay current on industry trends in design, branding, storytelling, visualization, presentation technology, motion design, and creative AI, bringing new ideas and best practices that strengthen Flagship's visual identity and communications.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with competing priorities, balancing strategic thinking with exceptional attention to detail and delivering polished, executive-ready work under tight deadlines.
  • Build trusted partnerships across Communications, Investor Relations, Business Development, Events, Human Resources, and other teams to ensure visual communications support organizational priorities and advance Flagship's reputation.

Qualifications

  • At least 5–7 years of experience in visual design, brand design, presentation design, or creative communications, preferably within life sciences, technology, consulting, agency, or other innovation-driven organizations.
  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating excellence in presentation design, visual storytelling, brand systems, and marketing collateral.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Figma, Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Experience leveraging AI-powered creative tools (such as Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, ChatGPT, Claude, Figma AI, or similar technologies) to enhance design workflows and creative output.
  • Demonstrated experience designing executive-level creative materials for senior leaders, investors, clients, or boards.
  • Deep understanding of typography, layout, information hierarchy, data visualization, and visual storytelling principles.
  • Familiarity with motion graphics, animation, and interactive storytelling platforms.
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS or modern presentation platforms that enable interactive or web-based storytelling.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience partnering directly with executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing polished, high-quality work under tight deadlines.

  • Highly adaptable. Adjusts quickly to changing business needs, shifting seamlessly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Acts with ownership. Takes initiative, anticipates needs, and follows through with a strong sense of accountability, often operating independently while knowing when to seek input or alignment.
  • Collaborates generously. Builds trusted relationships across diverse teams and functions, welcoming feedback, incorporating different perspectives, and contributing to shared success.
  • Balances speed with excellence. Delivers high-quality work under tight timelines, exercising sound judgment about when to iterate, when to perfect, and when to move forward.
