Job Description:

The DLAM Operations Support position provides cross-functional operational support across multiple Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) facilities and service areas. This position is responsible for maintaining continuity of daily operations by supporting animal care, facility support, sanitation, equipment operation, inventory management, and other operational duties as assigned. 

The incumbent is cross-trained to work in multiple facilities and service areas and is deployed as needed to provide coverage for staffing shortages, employee absences, vacancies, peak workloads, and other operational priorities. This role requires the flexibility to transition between work locations and adapt to changing departmental needs while following established procedures specific to each area. By providing operational support where it is needed most, this position helps ensure consistent animal care, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted departmental operations while supporting supervisors across multiple work units.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • 50%- Animal Care and Facility Operations:
    Perform daily cleaning, sanitation, and operational duties in the large animal hospital, research barns, vivarium dog kennels, and other assigned animal care areas. Provide routine care for vivarium, research, and life science animals in accordance with established procedures. 
     

  • 25%- Records, Observations, and Supplies:
    Complete and maintain animal reports, daily census records, room logs, and other required documentation. Observe animals and promptly report health concerns or abnormalities to the appropriate supervisor or veterinary staff. Assist with ordering, receiving, organizing, and stocking supplies.

  • 10%- Cross-Facility Operational Support:
    Provide coverage and operational support in multiple DLAM work areas as assigned. 

  • 10%- Equipment Operation:
    Safely operate forklifts, tractors, cage-washing equipment, and other departmental machinery or equipment as required. Follow all applicable safety procedures and report equipment concerns or maintenance needs.

  • 5%- Other Duties:
    Participate in cross-training, special projects, emergency operations, and other related duties as assigned.

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

 High School Diploma.

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree; and 1 year of experience working in animal care, laboratory animal science, agriculture, veterinary medicine, or a related field is preferred.

Experience performing cleaning, sanitation, or facility support duties in an animal care environment is also preferred.

  

Special and Physical Qualifications: 

Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching (above shoulder), reaching (below shoulder), vision (near sight), vision (far sight), crawling, twisting, pushing/pulling, climbing, squatting, lifting more than 50 pounds, and lifting less than 50 pounds. 

 

Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.  

 

Emergency Essential Personnel -This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
