Macquarie University Waranara Library is hiring an eLearning Librarian. This role is a key member of the Digital Literacies Programs team (Academic Library Services) and is responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of high-quality digital resources to support the library’s information and digital literacies programs.

You will also provide technical and pedagogical advice in the creation and management of engaging, reusable learning objects and activities that build skill development and promote lifelong learning.

About the Role

The key responsibilities of the eLearning Librarian role include:

  • Applying instructional design and eLearning principles to develop and evaluate online educational material, including learning objects, modules, interactive components, tutorials and AI tools.

  • Coordinating, in partnership with key stakeholders, the planning, delivery and evaluation of the library's information and digital literacy resources, programs and services.

  • Developing, maintaining and quality assuring online (Tier 0) self-help resources and platforms, ensuring resources are current, engaging and compliant with style and copyright requirements.

  • Providing practical and technical guidance on the storage and management of learning resources in the library's learning objects repository, including the use of metadata to enable retrieval and re-usability.

  • Building and managing relationships with Faculties, learning designers and other student support units to ensure Library responsiveness to student needs.

  • Developing and delivering procedures, guides and staff training resources to build the capability of Library staff.

  • Identifying and reporting on emerging educational technologies, key trends and opportunities to enhance the library’s information and digital literacy and research skills support services.

  • Ensuring the collection and analysis of engagement data for reporting and quality assurance, while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.

The library contributes to the development of graduate capabilities, research capacity, teaching excellence and community engagement in partnership with academics and other University service providers.

About You

You enjoy designing learning experiences that make a real difference, and you bring your knowledge of instructional design, eLearning principles and best practice to shape the development and management of the library’s online educational material and tools.

You are hands-on with design software and emerging educational technologies such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Camtasia, and other AI-enabled products to create engaging learning objects, videos, tutorials and online self-help resources.

You are confident using systems and productivity tools, including SharePoint, Springshare, LibGuides and AI platforms to store and showcase digital resources. You take pride in building the digital capabilities of Library staff through your talent for training and educational design.

Above all, you thrive on collaboration, working alongside colleagues, academics and educators, building and managing partnerships through clear communication, and enjoying the shared success of coordinating, delivering and evaluating projects, services and products that meet real information and skills needs.

Selection Criteria

  • A degree in an information management, education, educational design or related discipline with experience across teams or services in an academic or research library environment, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and qualifications/training.

  • Understanding of digital, information and AI literacies, and of educational design principles for creating effective online learning objects, in a higher education context.

  • Demonstrated experience with design software and emerging educational technologies for online learning, such as Articulate Storyline, TechSmith Camtasia or generative AI tools.

  • Experience developing, delivering and evaluating online tutorials, videos or other learning objects, including the selection and application of pedagogical approaches, methods and assessment.

  • Demonstrated experience with course management systems such as Moodle, Library content management systems such as LibGuides or AI agents.

  • Proven experience building and managing productive relationships with key stakeholders in an educational environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Understanding of privacy legislation in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
