Description

The Company

PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.

We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.

We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards.  Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day.  We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

Job Summary:

The Director, Consumer establishes a cohesive product and growth strategy for Australia, owning consumer demand and the end-to-end funnel with sharp commercial and growth judgment. Operating autonomously in-market while staying tightly aligned to global strategy, the role balances product design with technical, regulatory and customer needs to deliver relevant, high-quality experiences. It drives in-year growth and investment decisions within global parameters, owning consumer outcomes, commercial performance and P&L. Co-designing products with the global Consumer team, it adapts the local proposition and leads cross-functional partners across product, financial services, marketing, CRM and GTM, using standardized analytics and market research for data-driven decisions. Success is measured through growth, relationship depth, funnel health, PP+ execution, revenue and market intelligence that shapes global product strategy.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drive revenue growth and global market expansion by identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships, channels, and opportunities
  • Lead the negotiation with external partners and engage cross-functional support colleagues to ensure the successful delivery of solutions for large complex partnerships.
  • Develop and execute an overall business strategy to identify and cultivate strategic partnerships, channels, and opportunities to drive revenue growth and global market expansion.
  • Influence the negotiation with external partners, engaging cross-functional support colleagues, to ensure successful delivery of solutions for large complex partnerships.
  • Align product and business levers (such as pricing and FX) to maximize revenue and market expansion opportunities.
  • Engage closely with product, engineering, and architecture teams to drive the architectural runway and determine the best technical implementation/design.
  • Represent the end customer on an ongoing basis and use this knowledge to drive effective prioritization and decision-making.
  • Collaborate and influence product outcomes in a matrix organization with multiple stakeholders such as Engineering, Operations, Risk, Legal, Sales, Business Development, Marketing, Finance, and Banking Partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

  • End-to-end ownership of a consumer growth funnel in a market or regional context — from acquisition and activation through habituation and revenue — with a track record of hitting commitments like active accounts, new accounts volume and quality, 7-day activation, 30-day habituation, and PP+ enrollment against plan. These also carry financial responsibilties for your market to meet commitments

  • Fluency in turning cohort and funnel data into concrete growth, risk, and investment calls — deciding where to lean in, where to pull back, and when a product or engagement lever is the right fix.

  • Experience shaping global product direction from the field: synthesizing local market signal into a ranked, quantified narrative that earns a seat in product discovery and roadmap conversations, even without formal roadmap authority.

  • A history of co-owning launches from day one — signing off readiness at ramp gates and ensuring products land on time, at quality, with the network (merchant, partner, or channel) genuinely activated.

  • Comfort operating at the intersection of demand and supply: representing consumer priorities into merchant or partner relationships while leaving deal terms and platform build to the teams that own them.

  • Proven influence across a matrixed organization — product, marketing, CRM, GTM, sales, and financial services — without direct authority over any of them, built through clear priorities, trust, and disciplined trade-offs.

  • Background in payments, financial services, technology, or another complex marketplace, ideally with direct P&L, commercial strategy, or consumer product management experience.

  • Strong quantitative instincts — able to size market opportunity, judge cohort and product quality, and defend a business case with numbers, not just narrative.

  • An executive communication style: confident setting vision, comfortable making hard trade-offs, and credible enough to align stakeholders who don't report to you.

  • A bias for autonomy and sound judgment in ambiguity — commercially minded, customer-obsessed, and results-driven even when the mandate is broad and the org lines are blurry.

  • Solid background from the payments and fintech landscape

  • Exposure to loyalty programs
