Scope of Position

The Production Engineer serves as a key technical resource for manufacturing operations at HF Scientific, with primary responsibility for improving production processes, resolving day-to-day manufacturing issues, and ensuring products can be built safely, consistently, efficiently, and to established quality requirements.

The Production Engineer works closely with Production, Quality, Chemistry, Supply Chain, and Engineering to improve process capability, reduce manufacturing disruptions, maintain accurate production documentation, and implement engineering changes.

Success in this role will be measured through improvements in safety, quality, delivery, productivity, first-pass yield, and manufacturing process performance.

This position reports to the Quality and Production Engineer Manager and is on-site in Fort Myers, Florida.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily engineering support to production teams, serving as a primary technical resource for manufacturing issues, product questions, and process-related challenges.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve manufacturing problems using structured root cause analysis and data-driven problem-solving methods.

  • Develop, improve, validate, and maintain manufacturing processes, assembly methods, work instructions, fixtures, tooling, and production documentation.

  • Drive improvements in safety, quality, first-pass yield, labor efficiency, throughput, lead time, and overall process capability.

  • Collaborate with Quality and Production teams on nonconformances, corrective actions, process validations, and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Manage and support Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders, ensuring changes are properly evaluated, validated, documented, and implemented in production.

  • Maintain and improve Bills of Material (BOMs), drawings, routings, specifications, and other manufacturing-related engineering documentation.

  • Evaluate product and process changes for manufacturability, cost reduction, standardization, reliability, and production impact.

  • Design or modify fixtures, tooling, components, and manufacturing solutions using 2D and 3D CAD tools as needed.

  • Plan and execute engineering trials, testing, data collection, and process validations to confirm proposed solutions before full implementation.

  • Monitor manufacturing performance using metrics and KPIs, identify recurring losses or constraints, and lead actions to improve performance.

  • Support production line balancing, capacity analysis, time studies, standard work, workstation improvements, and manufacturing layout changes.

  • Participate in and lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement activities using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Partner with Supply Chain and suppliers as needed to address component-related production issues, manufacturability concerns, and technical requirements.

  • Support new product introductions and product transfers by ensuring production processes, documentation, tooling, training, and validation requirements are ready for manufacturing.

  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Quality and Production Engineer Manager or Company management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, or other relevant Engineering discipline required.

  • 3 + years of experience in Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Sustaining Engineering, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools such as Inventor or SolidWorks.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement methodologies preferred.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.

  • Hands-on manufacturing mindset with the ability to work directly with operators, technicians, and production leadership to resolve issues.

  • Experience developing, improving, and validating manufacturing processes, work instructions, fixtures, tooling, or production methods.

  • Ability to interpret and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Material (BOMs), and manufacturing documentation.

  • Working knowledge of engineering change control and configuration management processes.

  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.

  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using manufacturing metrics and data to drive improvements in quality, productivity, yield, and delivery.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, BOM management tools, and manufacturing data systems.

  • Experience supporting new product introductions, product transfers, process validations, or manufacturing trials.

  • Experience designing or modifying manufacturing fixtures, tooling, or components.

  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification or demonstrated continuous improvement experience.

  • Experience working within an ISO 9001 or other regulated quality system.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Working Conditions

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform duties in both an office environment and on the manufacturing floor. You will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment while on the manufacturing floor. You will be required to work at the Fort Myers, Florida location Monday through Friday. Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

  • Ability to physically move around manufacturing floor.

  • Ability to read documents and communicate clearly with management and coworkers.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
