Position Overview
We have been exclusively engaged to source a sharp, commercially astute Quantity Surveyor for a global market leader in heavy civil engineering, foundations, diaphragm walls, and geotechnical works.
This role is tailored for an ambitious mid-level QS with 3 to 5 years of experience who understands the high-stakes commercial environment of heavy infrastructure and specialist subcontracting. You will bridge the gap between main contractor negotiations and downstream subcontractor management, protecting margins on marquee Hong Kong civil and foundation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial & Contract Management: Administer subcontracts and specialist supply chain agreements, ensuring full alignment with upstream main contract conditions.
- Valuations & Interim Applications: Prepare, submit, and negotiate monthly interim payment applications, valuation of works, and milestone progress claims with main contractors.
- Variations & Claims Management: Identify, price, substantiate, and negotiate Compensation Events (CEVs), site instructions, and Extension of Time (EOT) claims arising from complex ground and site conditions.
- Subcontractor Procurement & Control: Evaluate tenders, draft back-to-back subcontract packages, review downstream payment applications, and manage final accounts.
- Cost Control & Reporting: Assist the Commercial Manager with cost-value reconciliations (CVR), cash flow forecasts, budget monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, site agents, and engineering teams on-site to capture day-to-day site records, delay events, and extra work instructions.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of post-graduate quantity surveying experience within the Hong Kong construction industry.
- Sector Background: Essential exposure to heavy civil engineering, foundations, geotechnical works, piling, diaphragm walls, or major infrastructure. Candidates from specialist contractors or heavy civil main contractors will be prioritized.
- Contract Acumen: Solid working knowledge of standard industry forms of contract (e.g., NEC, Government General Conditions of Contract, or standard subcontracts).
- Interface Competence: Proven track record of managing both upstream client/main contractor relationships and downstream subcontractor accounts.
- Qualifications: Higher Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Personal Attributes: Resilient, articulate, detail-oriented, and capable of holding commercial ground under pressure. Fluent in English and Cantonese.
How to Apply
Qualified candidates matching the above criteria are invited to submit their updated CV in Word format.
