Illumina is seeking a Director of Clinical Bioinformatics to lead delivery of informatic solutions that power Illumina’s end-to-end solutions and assay informatics. We are looking for an experienced bioinformatics leader that is passionate about powering new applications with innovative new informatics approaches using Illumina sequencing and multi-omic technologies. This is a unique opportunity to be a core contributor to Illumina’s mission to unlock the power of the genome by creating our next application solutions and industry leading bioinformatic algorithms. 

Location: The ideal candidate is based in San Diego, CA or within California with the ability to travel to San Diego on a regular 

basis. 

Responsibilities 

• Lead bioinformatics for design, delivery, and validation of end-to-end assay and application solutions 

Innovate vigorously to deliver high value solutions to drive next wave of precision medicine and multi-omics applications 

• Responsible for design and implementation of novel bioinformatics algorithms on the DRAGEN platform 

• Build and manage relationships with external customers, partners, and key opinion leaders and represent Illumina externally 

Develop program to proactively monitor, and tactically and strategically respond to competitive technologies  

Requirements 

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 18 years of related experience, with 10+ years of Management experience.

• Proven track record of successfully leading major multi-disciplinary product development projects from concept to commercial release 

• Extensive experience developing Bioinformatics algorithms for multiple technologies (NGS and microarray) and domain areas (oncology, genetics, and reproductive health) 

• Broad experience building regulated lab developed tests, distributed IVD products, or regulated instrument systems 

• Must effectively balance innovation roadmap with execution-oriented product development projects 

Exceptional communication skills  

• Able to deliver result in uncertain and fast-paced environment  

• Results oriented leader with 5+ years leading globally distributed teams; must have experience managing managers

The estimated base salary range for the Director Clinical Bioinformatics role based in the United States of America is: $205,100 - $307,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The range reflects long‑term growth in the role; therefore, most candidates are hired between the minimum and middle of the range. Placement depends on experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
