As an Institute and Market Finance Director I, you will lead financial operations for the Mercy and Medina Hospitals, partnering closely with executive leadership and providers to drive service line financial performance and support enterprise objectives. This role oversees monthly financial operations and performance metrics, annual financial planning, business plan development, and staff development while identifying opportunities to improve financial performance across assigned areas. The ideal candidate will have a strong executive presence and exceptional communication skills, as this role works closely with executive teams at Mercy and Medina, regularly meets with providers, and presents financial performance and strategic recommendations at quarterly board meetings.

A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

This position is 80%–100% onsite, with caregivers working at Mercy 2–3 days per week and Medina 1–2 days per week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Plan, organize, and direct all strategic activities related to staffing, including hiring, orienting, performance management, employee engagement, and continuing education initiatives in a matrix environment.

  • Oversee financial operations of the assigned area including financial reporting, month-end financial close, and partnering on cost accounting.

  • Demonstrate strategic and high-level knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory, and administrative requirements relative to operations and ensure compliance with internal controls.

  • Lead monthly departmental financial review meetings and provide analysis, interpretation, and recommendations for corrective action, as needed.

  • Collaborate with market, institute, and enterprise leadership to establish and monitor key metrics and measures for financial performance.

  • Monitor service line financial performance and new business development including recommendations for financial improvement.

  • Lead areas through approved key enterprise, or corporate initiatives, including financial planning, capital planning, and business planning.

  • Prepare and present financial performance to various leadership groups.

  • Partner with RCM and MNS to monitor revenue cycle and reimbursement performance.

  • Other duties.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field

  • Six years of experience in business management, strategic initiatives, operational and capital budgeting processes, financial analysis, and reporting

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial planning, forecasting and analysis, budget development, strategic and business plan development, project management, financial statement, and financial system experience

  • Ability to work in a stressful, complex, and matrixed organization

  • High-level management and leadership skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • MBA

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or related

  • Healthcare experience

  • Three years of supervisor and/or project management experience

  • Experience with EPIC, tech skills (Oracle Snowflake, Tableau or Strata)

  • Experience with MS Excel pivot tables

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.

  • Ability to travel throughout the hospital system and, in some locations, off-site.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. 

  • This position must be available after hours for support.
