Job Summary
Guided by company strategy and APFS business objectives develops, recommends, and executes, along with Business Development counterparts, APFS strategy.
Lead, manage, and direct the pricing, and structuring, and other activities related to specific new business development opportunities covering, but not limited to, Asset Intensive, Longevity, Capital Solutions and Specified Projects to further enhance the business opportunities in APAC.
Lead multiple levels of managers to ensure effective people leadership within the APFS Pricing area and developing structuring team/capabilities, with a strong focus on fostering a positive and engaged work environment.
Principle Duties
- Lead the development of the regional pricing strategy and actively participate in operational planning, strategic planning, new initiatives, and deal planning meetings to assist in the leadership and influence the direction of the APFS Pricing team and in the management of the broader Regional APFS team.
- Lead the APFS pricing team with respect to pricing, modeling, risk analysis, structuring, and other activities related to specific new business development opportunities covering, but not limited to, Asset Intensive, Longevity and Capital Solutions.
- Lead specific projects and initiatives to develop new market opportunities across APAC to ensure the sustained growth of RGA. Examples include new product areas e.g. longevity, new market opportunities e.g. PRT, Closed Blocks etc.
- Lead in partnering with the Business Development to determine client needs and objectives, understand and analyze client information, and design terms and structures of transactions to meet those needs and objectives, including providing direction and guidance to all associates in the development of new markets, structures and product lines for APFS.
- Primary contact with corporate functions, including Enterprise Pricing and Financial Products team to ensure appropriate development of pricing standards, drawing on their support for complex transactions and the development of financial products whilst also representing APFS in corporate or cross-divisional committees or working groups affecting APFS functions or priorities.
- Lead multiple levels of managers to ensure effective people leadership within the APFS Pricing area, including, organizational design, talent acquisition, future skills planning, learning and development, career development, performance management, succession planning and total rewards and recognition.
- Lead discussions on complicated or delicate risk issues with internal and external clients. Communicate progress towards resolution and critical information to senior management.
- Assist with marketing efforts by supporting client development, writing articles for publication, presenting at industry meetings, participating in industry or professional committees, and/or developing marketing initiatives. Lead and assist others in doing the same.
- Utilizing expertise and knowledge, to support the work of the teams, and otherwise ensuring pricing integrity for the Regional Pricing team’s output whilst assisting in-force management personnel with monitoring experience of in-force treaties and developing ways to incorporate this feedback back into pricing and/or proactive mitigations / enhancement of financial returns.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, or related field (required).
- Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent actuarial qualification from a globally recognized body (required).
- 20+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance/reinsurance (required).
- 10+ years of management experience (required).
- Financial reinsurance, asset-intensive, or longevity pricing experience (preferred).
- People leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop managers and associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility (required).
- Strong technical and critical thinking skills to provide thought leadership and guidance to teams on the development of new structures and/or identify new market opportunities (required).
- Ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers (required).
- Ability to liaise and partner with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines (required).
- Influencing and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems (required).
- Ability to take ownership in projects and manage multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously, provide guidance and direction, and drive projects to completion (required).
- Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance, health insurance, longevity, and/or annuity products (required).
- Oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members (required).
- Ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies (required).
- Understanding of asset modeling and ALM techniques, including derivatives, and capital markets approaches (required).
- Knowledge of key financial reporting, accounting, and solvency regimes, including (but not limited to): US GAAP, US Statutory, and US tax; IFRS; EV; and ICS/Solvency II (preferred).
- Ability to direct the modeling of various insurance products and reinsurance structures, and to challenge and enhance our analytical capabilities (preferred).
