Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Managing wastewater treatment/ sewage treatment, and sewage collection.
2. Operating and monitoring equipment i.e., Pumps, valves, blowers, screens filters, and other machinery involved in the treatment process.
3. Inspecting, servicing, and repairing components of the treatment plants, including but not limited to intakes, conveyance equipment, chemical treatment equipment, and control systems
4. Troubleshooting any issues of equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks to keep the treatment facility operating efficiently.
5. Conducting water quality test and monitoring the quality of water being treated.
6. Compliance and reporting to demonstrate compliance with environmental standards.
7. Work in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures.
8. Adhere to regulatory and internal procedures and guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records required for environmental audits and regulatory inspections.
- Assist during Ministry/City environmental inspections and provide documentation when required.
- Perform routine laboratory testing including pH, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, MLSS, sludge blanket levels, and other required process parameters.
- Safely receive, store, transfer and handle treatment chemicals including acids, caustics, polymers, coagulants and disinfectants.
- Monitor chemical inventory levels and notify supervision before minimum stock levels are reached.
- Maintain a clean, organized and inspection-ready wastewater treatment facility in accordance with 5S and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
15. Serve as the site’s waste water treatment subject matter expert to understand and evaluate continuity risks to site businesses and effectively communicate with site and area leadership teams that are impacted.
16. Lead or facilitate root cause failure analysis efforts related to waste water treatment utilizing root cause analysis methodology.
17. All other duties assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications and Experience:
· Minimum, Grade 12 or GED. Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
· Must hold and maintain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class 1 Certificate or higher. (issued by OWWCO)
· Water Treatment Operator Class 1 Certificate or higher will be an asset.
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. This requires basic working knowledge of electrical and plumbing.
- 2 - 5+ years of waste water treatment plant operations experience.
- Experience abiding to permits, codes, and safety and environmental standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform work safely and effectively in an industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of reading and interpreting plant drawings.
- Ability to use drawings, diagnostic data, and field observations to troubleshoot operations, maintenance, and reliability issues.
- Ability to work with others and communicate well in a cross-functional setting including regulatory agencies, consultants, management, engineers, operator/mechanics, and contractors in a positive way.
- Experience using a computer, including Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise, and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
- Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks and hazards, such as working around mechanical equipment, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire and explosives hazards..
- Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office, warehouse, and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting on a daily basis. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette.
- Bump caps, safety glasses, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, lockout devices, fall protection and any other personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Son will be provided.
- Work involves frequent exposure to time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, irregular work schedule and/ or overtime, noisy and/or distracting environment, working closely with others as part of a team, and on rare occasion’s emergency situations.
