Dietary Aide – Part-Time
Kern River Transitional Care Center is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Part-Time Dietary Aide to join our dietary services department. This position assists with meal preparation, tray service, dishwashing, sanitation, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment for our residents.
Compensation
Pay Range: $17.48–$17.58 per hour
General Purpose
Dietary Aide assignments are determined based on the needs and activity of the shift. The Dietary Aide reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor and assists with daily food service operations while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary kitchen environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Learn and follow facility food service routines and procedures.
- Set up resident meal trays accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with serving meals, beverages, nourishments, and snacks.
- Strip returned trays and prepare dishes for washing.
- Operate the dishwasher safely and properly.
- Check and record chlorine concentration and dishwasher water temperatures at the beginning of the shift.
- Monitor dishwasher temperatures throughout dishwashing cycles.
- Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and food service equipment.
- Prepare resident nourishments and snacks as assigned.
- Sweep and mop kitchen and food service areas.
- Empty trash and garbage and dispose of waste properly.
- Receive and put away groceries and supplies in a safe, orderly, and sanitary manner.
- Clean and sanitize work surfaces, refrigerators, and other kitchen equipment.
- Maintain clean and safe floors throughout the dietary department.
- Leave the kitchen clean, organized, and sanitary at the end of the shift.
- Assist the Cook and Dietary Supervisor as requested.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, infection control, and facility procedures.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing dietary department training.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with employees throughout all departments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous food service, dietary, restaurant, or healthcare experience is a plus but not required.
- Must be willing and able to learn food service procedures quickly.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler’s Certificate as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and understand procedures, instructions, and recipes.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and ask for assistance when needed.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
- Dependable, organized, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Physical Demands
The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- Stand and walk frequently throughout the shift.
- Sit occasionally.
- Frequently reach, push, pull, talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Safely use kitchen equipment and transport food, trays, supplies, and dishes.
- Have adequate close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The employee works in a healthcare dietary and kitchen environment. The noise level is generally low to moderate. The position may involve exposure to heat, moisture, food products, cleaning chemicals, and commercial kitchen equipment.
