Context

It is rare to find an infrastructure project immune to budget and political cycles, but this one has a career horizon stretching all the way to 2086. We are looking for a Track and Alignment Lead Engineer to join the Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor—a 100% renewable, greenfield network that is setting a new global standard for engineering excellence.

Missions/Main Duties

In this role, you will lead the development and optimisation of the track alignment that defines the entire journey. You will be responsible for the horizontal and vertical geometry required to meet a 320 km/h design speed, ensuring ride quality and technical integrity across tunnels, viaducts, and open sections.

Profile/Skills

    • Lead the development and optimisation of the track alignment for the full Newcastle–Sydney HSR corridor and the detailed AP1 package.

    • Define horizontal and vertical geometry to meet the project's 320 km/h design speed (200 km/h in tunnels), ride quality, and clearance requirements.

    • Own the track design across all construction contexts, including slab track and ballasted track selection for tunnels, viaducts, and surface sections.

    • Manage the interface between track geometry and tunnel/structure design, defining track levels and centres within the tunnel bore and on viaducts.

    • Ensure all civil design packages incorporate the correct track geometry constraints and tolerances.

    • Develop track designs for transition zones to manage track stiffness and minimise whole-of-life maintenance costs.

    • Lead technical input into track specifications and procurement during ECI, including rail, fastening, sleeper, and ballast specifications.

    • Provide technical reviews of contractor and supplier submittals against project HSR standards.

    • Co-ordinate the track design with the OLE, Tunnel Ventilation, and Electrical Leads to ensure a fully integrated permanent way design.

If you are ready to put the "greenest thing possible" on your CV and lead a technical legacy that moves the needle for decades to come, we want to hear from you.
