Senior Electrical Engineer
Roanoke, VA
Overview
Our client is seeking a driven and safety-focused Senior Electrical Engineer to oversee the design, maintenance, and operation of plant power distribution systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring reliable electrical infrastructure while supporting capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. You’ll collaborate closely with operations, maintenance teams, and contractors to deliver high-impact solutions in a dynamic industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate capital and non-capital electrical projects, including upgrades to power distribution systems, lighting, cabling, and conduit installations
- Manage and direct electrical contractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification
- Oversee incoming plant power distribution systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
- Provide engineering support to production and maintenance teams, including troubleshooting and process improvements
- Contribute to planning and execution of plant-wide technology and infrastructure enhancements
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture in all aspects of work
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET)
- Foundational knowledge of power distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, AC/DC motors, and motor controls/drives
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Preferred:
- Experience with medium and high-voltage equipment and substations
- Familiarity with AC overhead cranes (up to 200 tons)
- Knowledge of transformer maintenance programs
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and GE PLC systems
- Basic understanding of thermodynamics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- 5+ years of experience in a steel manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
