Your impact:

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the RentCafe mobile team and help build a new generation of rental search experiences. 

In this role, you will contribute to a greenfield iOS and Android application, as well as the backend infrastructure that supports it. The team’s mission is to build a best-in-class Internet Listing Service that goes beyond traditional apartment search by creating a video-first, lifestyle-focused experience for renters. 

This is a meaningful opportunity to work on a modern mobile product from the ground up, influence technical direction, and contribute to a platform that connects renters with communities in a more engaging and intuitive way. 

You will join a highly collaborative team that values ownership, clear communication, and thoughtful engineering. You will work closely with Austin-based senior engineers, a dedicated UI/UX designer, product and strategy leadership, and engineering and product partners based in Cluj. 

Because this role involves close collaboration with a US-based team, availability between 11:30 AM and 8:00 PM, Monday – Friday,  is required to ensure meaningful overlap. 

This hybrid role requires working from the office at least once a week, so please take into account that you should be based in or near Cluj-Napoca. 

What you’ll bring along:

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in full-stack, web, backend, or mobile application development. 
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React 
• Experience building applications that interact with APIs and databases 
• Experience with React Native, Python, SQL, or Elasticsearch, or the ability to ramp up quickly on these technologies 
• Experience developing backend systems in a general-purpose language such as Python, Ruby, Scala, Java, or C# 
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and a product-oriented engineering mindset 
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and time zones 
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability for technical outcomes 

Nice to Have:  

• Experience building or maintaining mobile applications 
• Experience with React Native in a production environment 
• Experience working on greenfield products 
• Experience contributing to backend architecture or API design 
• Familiarity with search, listings, marketplace, real estate, or leasing platforms 

What you’ll do:

• Develop and maintain features for a React Native mobile application
• Build and support backend APIs and infrastructure
• Investigate and resolve bugs across the application stack
• Scope, estimate, and deliver new product features
• Address technical debt to improve platform security, stability, performance, and maintainability
• Collaborate effectively with technical stakeholders across the organization
• Partner with engineering and product teams to integrate across the leasing journey
• Take ownership of technical work from planning through delivery
