STEP Program
The Le Moyne College Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is one of 51 STEP programs in New York State preparing economically disadvantaged students from Nottingham High School, Henninger High School, Syracuse Middle Schools and all of Onondaga County for college. Collaborating with the New York State Department of Education and the Syracuse City School District since 1987, we’re proud of our students’ pursuit of careers in math, science, technology and the health-related or licensed professions.
Position Summary
The professional tutor is a vital link between our STEP students (grades 8th – 12th in the Syracuse City School District) and other professional staff within the program. The professional tutor functions as a student advocate and role model and assists program participants to achieve both academic and professional success.
This is a part-time position for 2-3 Saturdays per month from 9am-1:30pm. There are a total of 21 Saturdays over the academic school year.
This position is funded by external sources and is contingent on the continued receival of those funds.
Principal Duties and Essential Functions
Job duties specific to this position:
Perform one-on-one meetings with students in the program to assist with short and long-range educational goals.
Provide academic and professional counseling including assistance with college application process and employment applications; and identify students who require additional academic support services.
Facilitate seminars and programming with the assistance of other STEP professionals that contribute to the goal of advancing student's academic, personal, and professional growth.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, Science majors preferred (biology, chemistry, or related)
NYS Teaching certificate preferred.
An interest in, and commitment to, high school students.
Commitment to, and comfort with, culturally diverse populations.
Excellent communication skills required.
This is a position includes 2-3 Saturdays per month (21 over the academic year)
Flexibility and adaptability are essential.
Additional Information:
Pay Range: $20.00 per hour
