Job Description Summary:
The Accounting Manager will lead the PT, ES, LU accounting function, ensuring robust financial control, accurate and timely reporting, and compliance with all relevant regulations. The role will take ownership of key technical areas including hedge accounting, intercompany transactions, IFRS16 lease accounting, capital expenditure (capex), statutory accounting under Portuguese GAAP (SNC), Spanish GAAP (PGC) and Luxembourg GAAP (Lux GAAP) (desirable), and the coordination of local statutory reporting, audits and regulatory compliance requirements.This is a leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, a hands-on approach, and experience managing teams in a dynamic, multi-entity environment.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
Deliver accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Deliver accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close reporting packs to aid the consolidation
Ensure statutory financial statements are prepared in compliance with Portuguese GAAP (SNC), Spanish GAAP (PGC) and Luxembourg GAAP (Lux GAAP) (desirable), including robust commentary and variance analysis.
Manage the reconciliation of local GAAP reporting to IFRS reporting requirements for group consolidation purposes.
Ensure compliance with local filing requirements, publication deadlines and regulatory reporting obligations in each jurisdiction.
Oversee Intercompany reconciliations across the immediate perimeter
Oversee internal controls and support improvements in policies and procedures.
Support the coordination of the external audits at country level, ensuring supporting the timely delivery of requested information and resolving audit queries.
Support the implementation of internal controls and recommend improvements to reporting, reconciliation, and compliance processes.
Intercompany Reconciliations:
Oversee intercompany accounting processes, including reconciliations, settlements.
Work with global finance teams to resolve discrepancies and improve standardisation.
Implement tools or process enhancements to improve visibility and accuracy of intercompany balances
Support treasury in the loan and dividend settlement quarterly across the group
CapEx Monitoring & Compliance:
Manage capex accounting, ensuring alignment with capitalisation policies and budget controls.
Oversee fixed asset lifecycle: acquisition, capitalisation, depreciation, disposals, and impairments.
Work closely with operational teams to monitor capex spend vs. budget and project completion.
IFRS16 Lease Accounting:
Lead the accounting and reporting of leases in compliance with IFRS 16.
Maintain the lease register, calculate lease liabilities and right-of-use (ROU) assets.
Monitor lease modifications and ensure correct accounting for remeasurements, renewals, and terminations.
Accounting Standards & Technical Leadership
Serve as the subject matter expert for all technical accounting matters
Interpret, implement, and communicate accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 9 (financial instruments), IFRS 15 (Revenue Recognition and Contracts), IFRS 16 (leases) , IFRS 13 (fair value measurements), IFRS18 (Disclosures and presentation) ( etc.).
Advise senior management on the accounting impact of new contracts, transactions, or regulatory changes.
Derivatives Accounting & Reconciliation:
Manage hedge accounting activities in accordance with IFRS 9, including documentation, effectiveness testing, and fair value measurement of:
Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
Interest Rate Swaps
Commodity and FX hedging instrument
Compliance & Tax Support
Support tax compliance and reporting (corporation tax, VAT, deferred tax), in partnership with internal tax or external advisors.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Lead, coach, and develop a team of qualified and part-qualified accountants.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, and business unit leaders.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Strong expertise in IFRS and at least one of Portuguese GAAP (SNC), Spanish GAAP (PGC) or Luxembourg GAAP (Lux GAAP) (desirable).
Excellent leadership and people development skills.
High attention to detail with a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset.
Experience managing statutory financial statements and audits in multiple European jurisdictions.
Effective communicator across finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Ability to manage deadlines and deliver under pressure.
Fluent in English (mandatory) and Spanish (desirable)
Relevant experience:
Minimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
Knowledge of Portuguese SNC, Spanish PGC and/or Luxembourg GAAP (desirable).
Hands-on experience with:
Hedge accounting (IFRS 9)
IFRS 16 lease accounting
Capex and fixed asset accounting
Intercompany reconciliations and eliminations
Experience in a multi-entity, multinational organisation.
Proven ability to manage audits and work closely with external auditors.
Education and qualifications:
Fully Certified Accountant
Software Programmes:
Proficient in ERP systems
Very Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and reconciliations.
Experience with lease accounting tools (desirable).
Microsoft Dynamics365
Travel Requirements
UK and European travel as required
Salary Range: Permanent contract with salary range between 55-60k euros ABS + variable bonus + benefits.
