As a Chaplain at Banner Health, you will provide compassionate emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and staff from all faith backgrounds and beliefs. You'll assess individual spiritual needs, offer comfort during difficult times including crisis situations and end-of-life care, and lead worship services that honor diverse religious traditions. Working as part of our healthcare team, you'll respond to emergency calls, participate in patient care rounds, and help create a healing environment where everyone feels supported. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives during some of their most challenging moments, while also supporting our staff and building connections with the broader community.

Schedule: 40 hours per week on rotation with one 12-hour Saturday night shift per month.

The Phoenix campus, long known for excellent patient care, has over 730 licensed beds, several unique specialty units and is the new home for medical discoveries, thanks to our collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. Additionally, the campus responsibilities include fully integrated multi-specialty and sub-specialty clinics.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing emotional and spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in ecumenical and interfaith contexts, requiring the assessment of emotional and spiritual needs and addressing appropriately. Provides quality care in crisis situations and during the process of dying, death, and bereavement.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Provides emotional and spiritual care to patients, families, and/or staff.

2. Assesses the spiritual care needs of patients, families, and/or staff and responds appropriately.

3. Leads interfaith and ecumenical worship services.

4. Administers and/or facilitates sacramental, rituals, and worship experiences.

5. Provides emotional and spiritual intervention in crisis situations.

6. Responds to emergency calls and participates in interdisciplinary rounds on a regular schedule.

7. Fulfills all requirements of the ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education program.

8. Performs a variety of miscellaneous activities in support of continuing education and/or spiritual services at assigned facility, which may include: participating in evidence-based research projects and writing related journal articles; collaborating and maintaining community partnerships/relationships; leading educational seminars for staff and/or the hospital community; and/or, performing other related activities.

9. This position is responsible for providing spiritual care at assigned facility under the direction of spiritual care staff. Internal customers include patient care teams, physicians, staff, and volunteers. External customers include patients, family members, faith communities, and area clergy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of pastoral/ministry services as normally obtained through the completion of a Masters of Divinity, equivalent or in process. Successful completion of one unit of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education.

Skilled in being tolerant and empathetic of intense emotions and situations. Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact, convey information, provide assistance to a diverse group of individuals and displays a high degree of confidentiality. Skilled in maintaining composure and professional demeanor in difficult, volatile, and stressful situations. Knowledge of crisis intervention and conflict resolution methodologies. Skilled in working independently. Skilled in maintaining documentation of observations and services provided.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, depending on assignment.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
