The Role
We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Technician / BIM Coordinator with proven experience delivering on building and structures projects across the industry to join our Auckland office.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in drafting and will support the leadership and development of team capability in the region and source business opportunities to support the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy.
In addition to drafting and modelling tasks, the Senior Technician supports the Project BIM Lead in information management using BIM for the project whilst supporting stakeholders across the project team to play their part in the information management process to meet requirements and digital deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for 3D spatial coordination in a coordination software/platform and report/assign issues (inc. clashes) to project stakeholders, including hosting of meetings.
- Contribute to tender response activities, including BEP/EIR reviews, Capability and Capacity Assessments, PQQs etc.
- Responsible for providing training for specific BIM processes, model uses and technologies to the project team.
- Responsible for producing a range of model outputs according to the EIR, BEP and DPoW.
- Responsible for ensuring any client or Lead Appointed party metadata requirements are delivered including compliance.
- Assist Project BIM Lead and Design Leads with the management of the TIDP.
- Proactively engages with RBG design managers to develop strategies to coordinate BIM models and interfaces directly with the Lead Appointed Parties BIM team.
- Contribute to the development of processes, procedures, templates to support the BIM Coordinator /BIM Manager.
- Ability to understand and enact project BEP based on best practice and RBG standards client information requirements.
- Work collaboratively with all design disciplines to ensure the integration of the overall design or solution.
- Assist in developing, training and mentoring technicians on project BIM requirements.
- Contribute to estimation of the correct time to complete BIM specific tasks.
- Working knowledge of the ISO 19650 series.
- Skilled with BIM authoring software such as Revit / Tekla / Archicad etc.
- Skilled with BIM coordination software such as Navisworks, Revizto, etc.
- Appreciation and understanding of openBIM standards such as IFC, COBie, etc.
- Experience using cloud-based collaboration platforms and CDE workflows, using tools such as Aconex, BIM 360, Projectwise etc.
- Experience with programming or visual programming e.g., Dynamo or Grasshopper, and awareness of computational and parametric BIM processes
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Architectural Technology, Building Information Modelling (BIM), or related discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience delivering structural and multidisciplinary projects using Revit in a consulting engineering environment.
- Detailed understanding of BIM workflows, information management processes, and model-based project delivery.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary BIM models across structural, architectural, and MEP disciplines.
- Strong understanding of structural detailing practices, drafting standards, and project delivery requirements.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior technicians and BIM team members.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and coordination skills, with the ability to engage confidently with internal and external project teams.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of project outcomes.
