Under direction, is responsible for inspecting on-site sewage facilities (OSSF); processes inspection and licensing documentation; schedules inspection appointments; investigates nuisance complaints; enforces OSSF regulations, and performs related duties as requiredDescription
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspects on-site sewage facilities for compliance with State and County OSSF regulations
Processes OSSF inspection and licensing documentation
Schedules inspection appointments and meets with installers and homeowners
Investigates environmental health and safety nuisance complaints received from the general public
Enforces OSSF regulations related to on-site sewage facility complaints
Updates OSSF computer records on septic system information such as location, completion, registration, and violations
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in the OSSF field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must become a State Certified OSSF Designated Representative within one (1) year of employment
Knowledge of State and County OSSF regulations; knowledge of basic sanitary engineering principles and methods; knowledge of environmental health and safety standards and practices
Skill in operating basic surveying equipment; skill in operating personal computer
Ability to perceive or visualize spatial relationships of the plane and solid objects; ability to effectively respond to customers inquires and complaints; ability to operate basic surveying equipment; ability to operate a personal computer; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside agencies, contractors and the public
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are primarily outdoors
The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks (i.e. cramped work areas), which requires following basic safety precautions
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperature variations (ie. rainy and icy conditions), rough terrain, poisonous plants, dirt, dust, fumes, vapor, smoke, unpleasant odors, hazardous materials, flammable liquids, sewage, damp surfaces, insect and/or animal bites
Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 15 pounds
Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly positions self to perform essential functions
Constantly operates tools and equipment
